Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
The problem can be that you may just hang out with Erasmus students who do prefer to speak English, it is another language for them to practise as speaking French, local language can be quite difficult with v different accents.Living with French housemates can help. Listening to French lectures can be v difficult at first and sometimes a struggle but just relax and you will be surprised at how much it becomes natural to stop translating. You will find that you interact mainly with other foreign students. Make an effort to meet local students and you will learn more. Alternatively get involved in activities outside the university. Eg. I played rugby for a local club and got a job in a bar This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

i believed i had a slight bit of competence in speaking french but when i got to Grenoble i found that that was not the case. But after 3 months i could have an interesting conversation with any french person. Its a shame i only had 3 months there cos i only started getting confidence ion speaking the language in the last month. I wonder how my french would be after 6 months.
