About the Role

As an R&D Intern - Flavour Creation & Applications, you will support the Research & Development team in the creation, testing, and evaluation of flavour solutions for food and beverage applications. This 12-month internship offers hands-on exposure to flavour formulation, laboratory practices, sensory evaluation, and product development within a global ingredients company.
Key responsibilities:
* Support the R&D team in flavour creation and food & beverage application development.
* Prepare and compound flavour samples following established formulations and procedures.
* Assist in laboratory trials, prototype development, and application testing.
* Participate in sensory evaluations, tasting panels, and benchmarking activities.
* Evaluate raw materials and support flavour ingredient testing.
* Maintain accurate technical documentation, formulation records, and project data.
* Support inventory management, sample retention, and laboratory housekeeping activities.
* Ensure compliance with laboratory, quality, health, safety, and environmental standards.
* Gain hands-on experience within a global flavour and ingredients business while developing technical and professional skills.

This internship forms part of the Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme, a business-led collaboration with the South African Government aimed at reducing youth unemployment by creating opportunities for young people to develop new skills and gain meaningful workplace experience.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and curious recent graduate who is eager to build a career in the food, flavour, or scientific industries.
You will ideally have:
* A BSc or Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Technology, or a related scientific field.
* A genuine interest in flavour development, food innovation, and laboratory work.
* Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
* The ability to accurately follow procedures and maintain detailed records.
* A proactive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* A commitment to quality, safety, and confidentiality.
In line with the YES Youth Employment Programme requirements, applicants must:
* Be between 18 and 29 years old.
* Be currently unemployed.
* Not have participated in a YES4Youth programme previously.
