The New York Fed is a key U.S. central banking institution. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York (New York Fed) is one of twelve regional Reserve Banks within the U.S. Federal Reserve System. Headquartered at 33 Liberty Street in Lower Manhattan, it is the largest and most influential Federal Reserve Bank. The New York Fed implements monetary policy as the operational arm of the Federal Open Market Committee. It holds custody of the world’s largest monetary gold reserves and acts as the U.S. Treasury's exclusive fiscal agent. Its responsibilities include supervising financial institutions, managing payment systems such as Fedwire, distributing currency, and conducting in-depth economic research. The Bank serves the Second Federal Reserve District, which includes New York State, northern New Jersey, Fairfield County (Connecticut), Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
