Summer Internship Program
The program is a 12-week paid internship immersive experience that provides functional learning working on robust and challenging project work, Executive and Senior leadership engagement, and exposure to Danaher Business System fundamentals. The program culminates with a report-out presentation to leaders from the organization. After successful completion of the program, interns will be considered to return as a full-time associate upon graduation.

This position is part of the Technical Operations department located in Madison, Wisconsin and will be onsite working 40 hours a week on first shift. At Aldevron, we combine best-in-class products and service the ideal operating environment to lay the groundwork for vital new discoveries worldwide. You will be part of the technical operations team and report to the Senior Manager Technical Operations. The undergraduate intern activities include, but not limited to, assisting with complex projects in the areas of recombinant protein expression, purification, or testing. The undergraduate Intern will work collaboratively on client driven development projects and independently on implementing process and testing improvement actions. The Undergraduate Intern has the opportunity to participate in technical interactions with clients. Protein Expression, Purification, and Characterization (duties will differ based on department assignment).

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
* Express recombinant proteins in microbial or eukaryotic expression systems at scales ranging from milliliter to hundreds of liters using shake flasks and automated bioreactors
* Purify recombinant proteins at scales ranging from milligrams to tens of grams using automated chromatography systems
* Characterize in-process samples and purified proteins using methods including, but not limited to, OD determination, metabolite profiling, SDS-PAGE, RP-HPLC, aSEC, LAL assay
* Develop assays for testing purified proteins against a panel of release criteria
* Complete project plans according to all specifications, including timeline and budget
* Evaluate and implement new technologies and work practices in the fields of protein expression, purification, and characterization
* Prepare and deliver final presentation to the team on work performed during the internship

The essential requirements of the job include:
* Working towards an undergraduate degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, microbiology or a closely related field
* Previous lab experience
* Exposure to one or a combination of the following is preferred: automated single-use or stainless bioreactor systems and control software, GE ÄKTA systems and unicorn software or HPLC systems and control/data analysis software.
