Job Description:
Introduction
The Leveling department at ASML is part of our Development and Engineering organization. We focus on measuring the height of each silicon wafer with nanometer precision using the Level Sensor. This surface map is critical to ensure accurate wafer exposure and prevent chip defects. It also supports other functions like contamination detection and wafer table deformation monitoring. Join us to help improve the precision of these measurements through advanced computational imaging.
Your assignment
In this internship, you will explore how computational imaging can enhance the performance of ASML's Level Sensor. You will develop and test algorithms that correct for noise and blur in measurement data. Your work will be validated using simulated test data and evaluated for real-world applications, such as detecting small contaminations.
Your main responsibilities will be:
* Research computational imaging techniques for denoising and deblurring
* Design and implement correction algorithms in a suitable programming environment
* Simulate test data to evaluate algorithm performance
* Analyze results and quantify improvements in measurement quality
* Investigate the impact of your solution on realistic use cases
* Document your findings and present them to the team
* Collaborate with engineers and researchers to refine your approach
This is a master internship for a minimum of 6 months, 4-5 days per week (2-3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is February 2026.
Your profile
To be suitable for the internship, you:
* Are pursuing a master's degree in computational science, applied physics, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, or a related field
* Have experience with MATLAB or a similar programming language
* Have affinity with computational science
* Preferably understand mathematical concepts related to inverse problems
* Are analytical and detail-oriented
* Can clearly communicate complex technical topics
Other requirements you need to meet:
* You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
* Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;
* You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
* If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
