The Medical Science Liaison is a field-based medical affairs professional who executes strategic medical plans through scientific education, evidence-based medicine advocacy, clinical research support, and strategic healthcare partnerships to improve patient outcomes.

MSL have on-label product, disease area or population health discussions and respond to unsolicited requests for off-label information in an objective, balanced, accurate and substantiated manner that is scientific in tone and content, free of promotional messages, truthful and not misleading.

MSL must demonstrate deep medical expertise and competency in scientific exchange, strategic insight gathering, and scientific partnership.

In areas of greatest unmet need, health inequity or potential for impact, MSL engage with healthcare providers and other stakeholders that influence the provision of care within health systems leading to collaborative problem solving.

MSL activities span the product life cycle; they execute pre- and post-launch plans and gain insights regarding current medical practice and influences on therapeutic approaches to disease management.

Key tasks:
Scientific Exchange

* Engage Key External Experts (KEEs), healthcare practitioners, and stakeholders through non-promotional scientific discussions about AZ disease areas and products
* Respond to unsolicited requests for off-label information in an objective, balanced, and scientifically substantiated manner
* Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans with clear objectives and expected outcomes
* Organize scientific meetings, advisory boards, and serve as speakers at external conferences
* Gather insights on healthcare landscape, unmet needs, and treatment approaches to inform strategic decisions

Research support
* Support evidence generation through interventional and non-interventional studies
* Assess trial feasibility, conduct site selection visits, and support recruitment efforts
* Provide information about Externally Sponsored Research (ESR) and Open Innovation programs
* Collaborate with researchers on AZ-sponsored clinical trial activities
Scientific/Subject Matter Expertise

* Provide internal stakeholders with clinical practice insights and strategic information supporting appropriate AZ product use
* Support staff training on clinical data and therapeutic area trends
* Maintain current medical/scientific expertise in disease management, AZ products, emerging therapies, and competitive landscape
* Document interactions and insights using appropriate systems (e.g. Veeva Medical CRM, etc.)

Cross-functional collaboration
* Work with Sales and Market Access teams on shared priority accounts
* ​Participate in cross-functional account planning with defined criteria and shared goals

Other

* Field work with frequency established with their supervisor and resulting from the requirements of the given area and team in accordance with global or local guidelines
* Performs other tasks assigned by their direct supervisor

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience :

* College/university degree in science or clinical field with relevant scientific experience
* Demonstrated ability to discuss scientific content with diverse audiences
* Project management experience
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to travel (percentage varies by geographic responsibility)
* English proficiency
* PowerPoint and Excel skills
* Training and presentation capabilities
