Our Team
Bloomberg's Global Sustainability Office (GSO) is responsible for the development and execution of Bloomberg's enterprise-wide sustainability strategy, program implementation, and external reporting. The GSO collaborates across the business under a robust governance structure to set comprehensive ESG-related objectives, targets and action plans that drive the business toward its global sustainability commitments.
The Strategy & Analysis function within the GSO is charged with translating business priorities into long-term sustainability strategies and supporting cross-functional execution of key sustainability programs. The function partners across the organization to align business planning, operational priorities, investment decisions, and accountability mechanisms with Bloomberg's sustainability and climate objectives.
What's The Role?
Bloomberg's Global Sustainability Office is seeking a short-term contract Decarbonization Strategy Consultant to support the development of an initial enterprise decarbonization strategy for senior leadership and governance discussions.
The primary objective of this role is to assess how Bloomberg is currently tracking against its decarbonization target, identify the key drivers of performance, and develop a practical, data-driven strategy that outlines priority actions, risks, gaps, dependencies, and decisions needed to support progress. The consultant will help translate emissions data, operational initiatives, and business priorities into a clear decarbonization roadmap that can inform internal planning, executive decision-making, and future governance updates.
This is a strategy and analysis-focused role. Functional teams across the organization will continue to own implementation of decarbonization initiatives, while the consultant will support strategy development, performance assessment, cross-functional coordination, analysis, roadmap development, and leadership-ready materials.
The consultant will work closely with the Global Sustainability Office and relevant functional partners, including Facilities, Procurement, Finance, Risk, Legal, Technology, Workplace Operations, Corporate Strategy, and other teams that influence Bloomberg's emissions profile and decarbonization performance.
We'll Trust You To:
* Assess Bloomberg's current performance against its decarbonization target, using available emissions data, operational inputs, initiative tracking, and business growth assumptions.
* Identify the key drivers of Bloomberg's emissions trajectory, including areas of progress, areas of risk, and factors that may affect future performance against target.
* Support development of an initial enterprise decarbonization strategy that outlines priority workstreams, emissions reduction levers, milestones, owners, dependencies, KPIs, and decision points.
* Evaluate decarbonization opportunities across relevant operational areas, including energy, real estate, technology infrastructure, procurement, business travel, and other emissions categories.
* Work with internal stakeholders to gather data, validate assumptions, document current initiatives, clarify implementation status, and identify barriers to progress.
* Analyze emissions reduction opportunities based on potential impact, feasibility, timing, cost considerations, operational implications, risks, and trade-offs.
* Develop executive-level materials that communicate Bloomberg's current position relative to target, strategic options, risks, dependencies, and recommended next steps.
* Create a clear view of the gap between current trajectory and target, including the actions or decisions that may be required to close the gap.
* Support development of a performance management approach for the decarbonization strategy, including KPIs, reporting cadence, data needs, governance structure, and accountability mechanisms.
* Document key assumptions, data limitations, open questions, stakeholder inputs, and recommendations to support continuity for the incoming permanent hire.
You'll Need to Have:
* Experience in corporate sustainability, climate strategy, decarbonization strategy, emissions reduction planning, sustainable operations, or a related field.
* Strong understanding of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, GHG Protocol principles, emissions reduction levers, and operational decarbonization strategies.
* Experience assessing organizational emissions performance against decarbonization targets, climate goals, or emissions reduction pathways.
* Experience developing decarbonization roadmaps, climate action plans, emissions reduction strategies, or sustainability transformation plans.
* Strong analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate emissions data, operational inputs, business growth assumptions, feasibility, cost considerations, and strategic trade-offs.
* Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, executive-ready materials and recommendations.
* Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders in a complex or matrixed organization.
* Strong project management and documentation skills, with the ability to create structure, maintain momentum, and support continuity during a transition period.
* Proficiency with Excel and presentation tools.
We'd Love to See:
* Experience with emissions forecasting, target gap analysis, marginal abatement cost analysis, renewable energy strategy, supplier decarbonization, climate risk assessment, internal carbon pricing, or scenario analysis.
* Familiarity with climate-related reporting frameworks and standards such as GHG Protocol, TCFD, ISSB, CSRD, GRI, SASB, or ISO 14001.
* Experience supporting executive-level sustainability governance, leadership reporting, or climate strategy presentations.
* Experience working in a global organization where strategy is centrally coordinated and implementation is owned by distributed functional teams.
* Experience with Power BI, Tableau, R, Python, emissions management platforms, or other data analysis and reporting tools.
