Your Role And Responsibilities

As an Application Modernization Developer Intern at IBM, you'll work with clients to co-create solutions to major real-world challenges by using best practice technologies, tools, techniques, and products to translate system requirements into the design and development of customized systems.

You will participate in many aspects of the development lifecycle, such as design, code implementation, testing, and support. You also could become a contributor within Open-Source communities across multiple disciplines.

This position resides in Toronto/Montreal and is a 4-month work term commencing in September 2026. It is mandatory that all applicants are enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution and returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work-term. Please note that MBA and PHD Candidates are not eligible for this program.

Candidates considered for a Quebec position must be fluent in French.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's Degree

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

* Competent & Working Knowledge with the following programming languages:
* Java, Python, JavaScript, Object Oriented Preferred
* Understanding of API specs and knowledge of how to create and integrate with REST services
* AWS, Artificial IAWS, Azure, Google, IBM or other cloud, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning in any cloud and on-premises enterprise, knowledge or experience with DevSecOps and Agile methods
* Ability to communicate complex situations clearly and simply by listening actively and conveying difficult messages in a positive manner
* Initiative to actively seek new knowledge and improve skills
* Computer Engineering, Computer Science students with strong API and web development skills
* Must be eligible to work full-time for the full duration of the internship starting in September 2026

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

* Experience with SQL and noSQL databases
* Big data (Hadoop, Spark) platform is a plus
* Object Oriented Design
* Exposure or interest in Design Thinking and Agile development methodology
* A passion for innovative ideas, coupled wit the ability to understand and assimilate different points of view
* Preferred Discipline: Computer Eng, Electrical Eng, Mechanical Eng, Systems Eng, Nanotech Eng, Mechatronic Eng
