Summer Internship - Data Scientist (6001)

You'll join our multidisciplinary team of data scientists and software developers to build software products and analytical workflows that support engineers and consultants. Expect to move from rapid prototyping to production quality code on projects that combine Python data pipelines with modern web front ends.

The Opportunity

What You Will Do

Data Acquisition & Engineering: Collect, clean, and validate large, complex datasets from diverse sources (e.g., sensors, databases, APIs). Build and maintain robust data pipelines using Python, SQL, and cloud tools (AWS).

Data Analysis: Apply statistical analysis and visualisation techniques to uncover patterns, trends, and insights. Work on real-world problems such as remote sensing structural health assessment and condition asset monitoring for predictive maintenance, and risk modelling for infrastructure projects.

Machine Learning & AI: Develop, train, and deploy predictive models for regression, classification, clustering, time series forecasting and computer vision tasks, using state-of-the-art libraries including, but not limited to, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, Torch. Apply explainable AI methods to support transparent, evidence-based decision making.

Data Visualisation & Communication: Present findings using clear, compelling visualisations and dashboards. Communicate results and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Get the opportunity to develop full-stack web applications that offer AI and analysis capabilities using modern tools like React.js and TypeScript.

Collaboration & Agile Delivery: Work in multidisciplinary teams, participate in sprints, code reviews, and demos. Contribute to project documentation and share knowledge with peers.

Cloud & Deployment: Gain experience in deploying data science solutions to the cloud (AWS, Azure) and integrating with web applications (React/Node/Next.js) as needed.

* You must be working towards a computer science degree
* Strong foundation in Python and SQL, with experience in data analysis, statistics, and machine learning.
* Experience with data visualisation tools and libraries.
* Clear communicator, able to translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations.
* Proactive, curious, and keen to learn new technologies and methods.

Additional

* Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and modern data engineering tools.
* Familiarity with version control (Git/GitHub), CI/CD, and collaborative coding practices.
* Exposure to infrastructure, transport, or engineering data.
