American EV maker of rugged off-road trucks and SUVs. Scout Motors Inc. is an American electric vehicle manufacturer, revived in 2022 as a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, and dedicated to designing, developing, and producing rugged, off-road electric trucks and SUVs rooted in American automotive heritage. Managed independently from Volkswagen, it operates with its own leadership, board, and facilities in several U.S. states—production planning in Blythewood, South Carolina; R&D in Novi, Michigan; and corporate functions in Tysons, Virginia, among other locations. The brand carries forward the legacy of the original International Harvester Scout (1961–1980), blending iconic design with modern EV technology. Not yet in full production, Scout unveiled two concept models—the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup—in October 2024, with manufacturing targeted to begin between late 2026 and 2027. Scout Motors employs approximately 300 people as of December 2023.
