XMM/INTEGRAL Instrument Operations Engineer

Job Description:
Telespazio Germany is looking to complement their current Astronomical Missions Operations team with additional engineering support, delivering services to ESA/ESOC for the XMM & INTEGRAL missions.

Key Responsibilities

To take over existing operations instrument activities, currently provided by ESAC and integrate them into the FCT at ESOC.
* maintain the instrument procedures (develop, change & test)
* maintain the instrument database (develop, change & test)
* perform instrument anomaly recoveries
* perform special operations support for instruments (eclipse operations, and development of automation activities to streamline the work of the Real-Time-Operations team
* support the calibration and mission planning teams at ESAC for operations
* provision of On-call support
* Execute real-time payload operations
* Perform maintenance of instruments and observing modes
* Perform maintenance of the instrument onboard software
* support the instrument health and performance monitoring
* execute offline instrument monitoring/trend analysis
* interfacing with instrument Principal Investigators for operational issues
To be a proactive key-team member to modernise existing operational activities while transferring them and introduce modern tools, to optimise the processes and operational efficiencies.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

* University degree or equivalent education in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering
* Spacecraft Payload and Platform subsystem knowledge
* Experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations.
* Fluency in English, both spoken and writing.
* Coordination with other service providers in operations (team player)
* Familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS-2000
* Experience in the generation of Flight Procedures and validation

Desirable Skills
* Familiarity with the ESOC environment.
* Familiarity with Satellite Instrument Operations
* Some experience dealing with external interfaces, e.g. Project, Industry, PDGS, etc.
* Familiarity with MOIS
* Programming knowledge (Python, Bash)
