A Day in the Life
A Day in The Life Of:
* Create and modify 3D models (primarily in SolidWorks) and 2D drawings (in SolidWorks or AutoCAD) for components, assemblies, and fixtures in line with internal standards and industry norms
* Prepare and maintain detailed engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, surface finishes, material callouts, and GD&T as required
* Work with engineers to translate design concepts, sketches, and mark-ups into fully detailed CAD models and drawings
* Support design changes and ECOs, updating CAD data and associated documentation in the PLM system
* Ensure revision control, naming, and storage of CAD files are maintained according to department and quality procedures
* Support continuous improvement of CAD standards, templates, libraries, and workflows
* Adhere to relevant quality system procedures, documentation standards, and regulatory/ISO requirements for medical devices
* Perform basic tolerance checks and fit/verifications within assemblies to identify interferences and potential issues
* Collaborate with manufacturing/operations to design or refine tools, jigs, and fixtures to support prototyping and production
* Generate and maintain BOMs and support preparation of technical documentation for prototypes, testing, and production builds
* Use 3D printing to iterate design concepts, validate form/fit, and generate print-ready CAD files, including optimisation of print orientation/supports and basic post-processing (support removal, simple finishing)
* Contribute to lab-based testing activities (approximately 20% of time), including preparation of test samples, basic test setup, execution of defined test methods, and documentation of results under engineer guidance
Key Skills & Experience
* Technical diploma/degree (Minimum Level 7 in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, CAD Technology, or related discipline) or equivalent experience
* Experience as a CAD Technician / CAD Designer in mechanical or product development environments, ideally medical devices
* Proficient in 3D CAD software, particularly SolidWorks; AutoCAD experience advantageous
* Ability to create and interpret technical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T
* Good understanding of mechanical design, manufacturability, and DFM/DFA principles
* Experience with PLM/PDM systems and prototype/testing support
* Experience within regulated industries such as medical device or pharma
* Strong communication, organisation, problem-solving, and collaboration skills with high attention to detail
