About the role
The Production Manager oversees all aspects of food manufacturing operations, ensuring products are produced efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. This role involves managing production schedules, supervising staff, maintaining compliance with safety & food safety regulations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities
* Plan, organize, and manage daily production activities to meet output targets.
* Monitor production processes and adjust schedules as needed to optimize efficiency.
* Ensure compliance with food safety standards (HACCP, ISO, local regulations).
* Conduct regular quality checks and implement corrective actions when necessary.
* Supervise and train production staff, fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
* Manage staffing levels and allocate resources effectively.
* Monitor raw material usage and minimize waste.
* Control production costs and implement cost-saving measures.
* Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices.
* Collaborate with R&D and procurement teams for new product launches.
* Prepare and present production reports to senior management.
* Track KPIs such as yield, efficiency, and downtime.
* Identify capex needs, motivate and ensure inclusion of key capex projects on a yearly capital investment plan.
* Manage employee performance and development, ensuring employees know organizational objectives. Agree and define individual performance goals. Provide feedback. Recognize high performance. Manage non-performance / incapacity.
* Understand the SHEQ requirements.
* Monitor performance against SHEQ requirements and correct non-conformances.
* Production Efficiency -Planned production achieved on schedule.
* Yield -Raw material conversion rate.
* Downtime -% of total production time.
* Quality Compliance -non-conformances in audits.
* Food Safety -Compliance with HACCP and regulatory standards.
* Waste Reduction -% of raw material waste.
* Cost Control -Maintain production costs within budget
* Employee Training -100% of staff trained on safety, operations and quality protocols.
* Customer Complaints -% of total shipments.
* Continuous Improvement -process improvement projects per year.
Qualifications and skills
* Technical qualification at minimum Diploma level in: Food Science, Production Management,
* Chemical/mechanical/Industrial Engineering or related field.
* Minimum 5 years of supervisory/management experience in food manufacturing.
* Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and quality assurance practices.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Proficiency in production planning software and MS Office.
* Leadership and team management.
* Analytical and decision-making ability.
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
