Description du poste:

At AstraZeneca, we put patients first and follow the science to tackle unmet medical needs. You'll join a high-performing Medical Affairs team where curiosity, collaboration, and scientific excellence are valued, and where your work directly supports better outcomes for people living with serious respiratory and immune-mediated diseases.

Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia | Field-based: ~80% field / 20% office | Contract: Fixed-term (maternity cover)

The role
As a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in Respiratory & Immunology, you will be a credible scientific partner to the medical and scientific community, enabling non-promotional scientific exchange, generating insights, and supporting medical education and evidence-generation activities in line with global/local Medical Affairs plans and local compliance requirements.

This is a maternity leave cover role, ideal for an MSL who thrives in the field, enjoys scientific dialogue, and can work autonomously while partnering closely with cross-functional colleagues.

Key accountabilities:
* Build and develop a strong local network of Key External Experts (KEEs): identify, segment, and engage stakeholders based on scientific interest and affiliations; create long-term, value-based partnerships.
* Lead high-quality scientific exchange in R&I: discuss disease areas, clinical evidence, and evolving standards of care in a balanced, objective, and compliant manner.
* Support evidence generation (e.g., Real-World Evidence and research activities): help identify opportunities, support site engagement, and contribute to initiatives aligned with stakeholder needs and Medical Affairs plans.
* Enable medical education: deliver scientific presentations at meetings and congresses; support development of scientific content (e.g., slide decks, advisory boards, and publication-related activities where applicable).
* Act as an internal scientific resource: provide medical/scientific knowledge, training, and insights to internal stakeholders; gather, analyze, and share external insights to inform strategy.
* Work cross-functionally with colleagues in Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory/Patient Safety and Clinical Operations to ensure coordinated, patient-focused execution.
* Operate with full compliance: complete required trainings/certifications and follow all applicable external regulations and AstraZeneca policies for external interactions and scientific engagement.

Essential skills & experience:
* Advanced degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent).
* Experience in pharma / healthcare / research environment; Medical Affairs exposure is an advantage.
* Strong ability to translate complex scientific data into clear, credible dialogue with HCPs and internal partners.
* Proven relationship-building skills with external medical/scientific stakeholders in a complex clinical ecosystem.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills; confident working independently in a field-based role.
* Fluent Slovenian and English, written and spoken.
* Valid driving license and willingness to travel within Slovenia.

Desirable skills:
* Prior MSL experience or strong Medical Affairs background.
* Therapeutic area exposure in Respiratory and/or Immunology (e.g., severe asthma/COPD/biologics, immune-mediated diseases, diagnostics, patient pathways). (Therapy-area familiarity preferred; deep expertise can be built with the right scientific mindset.)
* Experience supporting RWE / non-interventional studies, investigator engagement, or externally sponsored research.

Why AstraZeneca
You'll be part of a culture that values scientific curiosity, learning, and inclusive teamwork, with the chance to broaden your impact across the business while helping shape the patient journey in Respiratory & Immunology.
