It is key to the Organization's ability to reach the peoples of the world and to share the United Nations story with them in their own languages. These centres, working in coordination with the UN system, reach out to the media and educational institutions, engage in partnerships with governments, local civil society organizations and the private sector, and maintain libraries and electronic information resources. Just as UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located, they are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. Applications are invited for an UNPAID internship built around digital content curation and audience engagement. The Intern will act as a regional aggregator, identifying high-value news already published across the UN system's Caribbean websites and drafting concise, engaging 'blurbs' to provide context and drive traffic to these sources. This internship is designed to be full-time for six (6) months, working three (3) days per week at the UNIC office with two (2) days of telecommuting per week. The Interns must cover full time working hours (35 hours), under the supervision and support of a staff member from the office to which they are assigned. Part-time schedules may be arranged depending on UNIC requirements. The Intern will report to the Director of United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean Area and contribute to and perform the following duties: - Content harvesting: Assist in performing a recurring sweep of websites and social media platforms for UN agencies, funds and programmes across the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. - Contextual 'blurb' writing: Assist in drafting short, engaging summaries for every featured link to provide the audience with immediate context and a clear "reason to click." - Template population: Assist in populating these blurbs and links into established bi-weekly newsletter templates. - Distribution management: Under supervision, assist in the technical rollout of the newsletter to the regional subscriber database. - Vacancy card campaign management: Assist in curating and adding information related to new UN System vacancies, consultancies, and internships in the Caribbean to a weekly digital card for scheduling to social media. - Social media adaptation: Assist in the use of existing Canva templates to create social media graphics that promote the key stories featured in each newsletter. - Feature writing: Assist in researching and drafting full-length news and feature stories for the UN Caribbean newsletter or website, as required. - Local outreach: Assist in participating in and providing on-the-ground support for UN system outreach activities within Trinidad and Tobago. - Perform other duties as assigned.
