Computer Science internship: automated software patch tooling

Introduction

ASML develops a custom motion control platform to shorten the development time for control functions. It provides users with an abstracted model (toolbox) to define their application and hardware interfaces. These abstract definitions are then translated into a complex deployment of software components on real-time hardware, optimized for latency (I/O delay). The platform is suitable for conventional servo control as well as more generic applications. Our department (Motion Control) is responsible for the development and maintenance of the platform. With a growing amount of internal clients and increasing performance requirements, managing complexity becomes a challenge for us.

Your Internship

You will design and implement a tool that automates the steps for generating and qualifying software patches. This tool will improve efficiency and reduce manual work for our software teams. Your main responsibilities will be:
* Collect requirements from stakeholders;
* Design a maintainable and extensible application;
* Implement and test the tool, preferably in Python;
* Automate patch generation steps in a pipeline;
* Add functionality to retry steps on failure;
* Ensure progress and status are visible to users;
* Document the design and application clearly.

This is an MBO (Vocational level) or HBO (Bachelor level) internship for 4-5 days with a duration of 3-6 months. This is not suitable for a thesis. The start date is around February 2026.

Your Profile

To be a match for this internship, you:
* Are doing an MBO or HBO in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Sciences, or relevant studies;
* Have some practical experience with Python;
* Have a good understanding of the software development process, including the requirements collection and analysis;
* Possess good collaboration skills and a proactive mindset;
* Are fluent in English (both in writing and orally);

Other requirements you need to meet:
* You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
* You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
* If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
