Get to Know the Role
This role sits within Grab's Analytics organisation on the Finance Data team. The trainee will work on the Finance Data Warehouse (FDW), which powers company-wide financial metrics and reporting.
You'll gain hands-on experience building reliable data models and pipelines, supporting a migration project using dbt and Spark, and collaborating with Finance and Analytics stakeholders to deliver trusted, production-ready data.
This is a 6 months full-time onsite role based in Singapore as part of the GRIT Programme.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
The trainee will be involved in the following areas:
* Contributing to the migration of existing data pipelines and models to dbt and Spark within the FDW.
* Writing and reviewing SQL to understand, refactor, and optimize data transformations.
* Performing data validation and reconciliation of key financial metrics.
* Improving code quality (tests, refactoring, documentation).
* Assisting with workflow orchestration (e.g., Airflow DAG updates, job monitoring, alert handling)

What Essential Skills You Will Need
* Practical data warehousing concepts.
* Building modular ELT with dbt (models, macros, tests, documentation) and Spark (performance considerations).
* SQL techniques for analytics engineering (CTEs, window functions, optimization).
* Data validation and observability practices (testing strategies, lineage awareness, monitoring & alerting).
* Workflow orchestration fundamentals with Airflow
