Role purpose The role ensures HSBC delivers: 1. Senior oversight of the delivery of the bank's net zero and sustainability commitments and obligations across Mexico and LAM entities, with clear governance and ExCo-level engagement. That includes being the leading consulted party on the response to ongoing disclosure and local regulatory compliance. 2. Oversees the LAM strategic philanthropic giving, aligned to the global strategy of Financial Literacy & Nature (defined locally as "Resilient Jobs & Communities"). Ensures full governance and engagement thru the Americas Philanthropy Working Group and LAM CEO. 3. Delivers LAM volunteer program engagement, adopting best practices that will increase the % of LAM employees who volunteer with the bank's nonprofit partners both strategic and Foundation. Also ensures employee engagement in giving campaigns, training programs, and events. 4. Support for clients in their transition, partnering with SF&T, business lines and risk functions to embed sustainability into client engagement. Would ideally have a client-first mindset, working well with CIB and IWPB to drive thought leadership and client relationships that further HSBC's position as a leading sustainable finance bank in LAM. 5. Oversees the LAM progress on the net zero in HSBC's own operations commitment, supporting LAM DBS. 6. Ensure effective leadership of the Mexico Foundation, including operational management, governance, reporting, communications, and stakeholder engagement. Main activities 1. Act as regional, functional team manager, accountable for commercial and operational management of the Sustainability team (3 FTE plus interns) across Mexico & LAM (financials, risk, people and infrastructure) and Mexico Foundation, reporting into the Americas Head of Corporate Sustainability (functional manager) and LAM CAO/Head of Investor Relations (entity manager). 2. Senior oversight of the delivery of the bank's net zero and sustainability commitments and obligations across Mexico and LAM entities, with clear governance and ExCo-level engagement. That includes tracking and driving progress on the bank's net zero commitments, working with our banking colleagues and clients on their transition needs, and being the consulted party on the response to ongoing disclosure and local regulatory compliance. * Shape the Mexico & LAM sustainability / ESG strategy and supporting policies, aligned to Group direction and local market needs. * Act as thought leader for banking partners, SF&T colleagues and T400 clients on client transition opportunities * Help lead and deliver, along with other functions and the lines of business, on the regulations and disclosures required for the bank in Mexico * Monitor progress of the bank's net zero commitments across Mexico & LAM. * Monitor ESG risks, opportunities, and emerging regulatory requirements. * Chair and/or steer key governance forums including Sustainable Finance Forum, Americas Philanthropy Working Group, and any reporting to LAM CEO, OpCo and board. * Act as internal and external thought leader to continue to build the bank's reputation on net zero, social impact and other key areas of opportunity. Provide support relationships and dialogue with clients and local regulators, anticipating regulatory developments and emerging ESG risks as an SME when required. * Participate as SME for ESG content for annual reports and key disclosures, providing opinions to ensure alignment with Group Sustainability strategy. * Represent HSBC Mexico & LAM in relevant external engagements (as appropriate), including with investors, government bodies and NGOs. Participate actively as HSBC Sustainability representative at the Mexican Banking Association (ABM). * Have knowledge and clear understanding of ISSB / IFRS S1 & S2 criteria. 3. Oversees the LAM strategic philanthropic giving, aligned to the global strategy of Financial Literacy & Nature (defined locally as "Resilient Jobs & Communities"). * Oversee an annual strategic philanthropic budget of approximately USD$910,000 that is to be focused on impactful nonprofit programs that deliver on approved KPIs tied to Resilient Jobs & Communities, supporting the global strategy. * Using best practice criteria, identify and select nonprofit partners and programs in Mexico, Chile and Brazil that can deliver on narrow list of defined KPIs to ensure real impact in our communities. * Working with Group Philanthropy team in London, help deploy any global funds and program support that is being executed on the ground in LAM. * Ensure full governance and engagement thru the Americas Philanthropy Working Group and LAM CEO. 4. Delivers LAM volunteer program engagement, adopting best practices that will increase the % of LAM employees who volunteer with the bank's nonprofit partners both strategic and Foundation. Also ensures employee engagement in giving campaigns, training programs, and events. * Deliver on LAM CEO expectations for a unified and effective Americas volunteer program, increasing employee volunteer engagement in both quantity of numbers and quality of experiences. * Help establish new policy, working with HR, and expanding the use of the global Giving Force Volunteer Tool. * Lead an increase in engagement from LAM employees in volunteerism, training and giving programs and awareness. * Own the ESG training programme for Board, executives and employees, including targets, KPIs and reporting-tailored to Mexico & LAM regulatory and business needs. 5. Oversees the LAM progress on the net zero in HSBC's own operations commitment, supporting LAM DBS. * Track progress on LAM operations towards net zero across key areas of energy, travel, suppliers in region, working closely with DBS on any challenges and areas of opportunity. * Ensure regular reporting to LAM CEO, OpCo and Group * Partner with bank leadership and DBS to address any ongoing challenges that would prevent the bank from delivering on our operational commitments in the LAM region. 6. Oversee and ensure effective leadership of the Mexico Foundation, including operational management, governance, reporting, communications, volunteer engagement and stakeholder engagement. * Provide senior leadership of the Mexico Foundation, ensuring strong governance, effective delivery, and alignment to HSBC sustainability priorities. * Manage the GCB5 role that oversees the Mexico Foundation, providing leadership, support and ensuring best-in-industry Foundation giving in the region when benchmarked against competitors. * Oversee Foundation annual planning, reporting and stakeholder engagement, ensuring appropriate coordination with internal teams and external partners. * Ensure Foundation activities support HSBC's reputation and community impact objectives and are delivered with appropriate oversight and controls. * Support the increased communication of the impact of the Foundation's giving, using ATMs and branch communications channels. * Support the increase of employee volunteerism with Foundation grantees. Requirements * Experienced people manager, with a track record of helping a team navigate challenging dynamics, bank transformation and deliver on a complex array of goals and deliverables on demanding deadlines. * Expertise in climate change, sustainability, philanthropy, employee engagement, with additional expertise in the areas of workforce, education, financial inclusion and nature a plus. * Leadership skills, along with articulate and compelling public speaking and writing abilities. Spanish and English language fluency. * Strong ESG and net zero expertise with proven delivery across governance, disclosure, data and risk. Experience with regulators a plus. * Demonstrated ability to operate with sound judgement in complex, ambiguous and high-impact situations. * Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging with and speaking compellingly to critical stakeholders including bankers, banking leadership and CEOs, and key external stakeholders including clients and regulators. * Analytical and commercially aware, with strong writing and negotiation skills (particularly for disclosures and regulatory engagement). * Proven management track record, including budget and headcount management. * Ability to work effectively across cultures and in virtual, global environments; commitment to diversity and inclusion in line with HSBC values. * Understanding of corporate philanthropy, the nonprofit sector, corporate employee volunteerism and how to measure philanthropic investment thru KPIs tied to inputs, outputs and outcomes. Additional plus if that includes experience with Foundations and customer and employee giving campaigns.
