Job Description
Purpose of the role
To develop, implement, and maintain effective governance frameworks for all data and records across the bank's global operations.
Accountabilities
* Development and maintenance of a comprehensive data and records governance framework aligned with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
* Monitoring data quality and records metrics and compliance with standards across the organization.
* Identification and addressing of data and records management risks and gaps.
* Development and implementation of a records management programme that ensures the proper identification, classification, storage, retention, retrieval and disposal of records.
* Development and implementation of a data governance strategy that aligns with the bank's overall data management strategy and business objectives.
* Provision of Group wide guidance and training on Data and Records Management standard requirements.

As the Customer Data Strategy Lead at Barclays, you will be responsible for leading the end-to-end customer data quality, governance, and transformation programme, driving meaningful improvements in how customer data is captured, managed, and leveraged across the organisation. Working closely with the Chief Data Officer, Decision Intelligence teams, and senior business stakeholders, you will define and execute the customer data strategy, ensuring data is trusted, accessible, and aligned to business objectives. You will combine strategic leadership with a practical approach, diving into data, analysing root causes of quality issues, and shaping practical solutions that deliver measurable outcomes. Leveraging your solid understanding of data architecture and data management principles, you will influence the design of scalable data foundations and ensure business requirements are translated into effective data capabilities. Leading cross-functional teams within a complex matrix environment, you will drive alignment across technology, data, and business functions while championing a culture of data excellence and continuous improvement.
To be successful as a Customer Data Strategy Lead, you must have the following essential skills:
* Significant senior-level experience leading data strategy, data transformation, data quality, and governance programmes within large, complex organisations
* Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise-wide data transformation activities, including Agile delivery and operating within hybrid onshore/offshore delivery models
* Proven experience in translating data, analytics, and insight into measurable business value and outcomes
* Experience partnering with senior executives, including Chief Data Officers and business leaders, to drive strategic data objectives and organisational change
* Great understanding of data quality, data governance, data management, and responsible data use, with experience establishing sustainable governance frameworks
* Solid knowledge of data architecture principles, with the ability to contribute to architectural decisions and ensure data solutions align with business and technology strategies
* Experience leveraging or implementing AI-driven capabilities to improve data quality, transformation, automation, or decision-making processes
* Excellent strategic thinking combined with the ability to work at a detailed level, analysing data issues, identifying root causes, and shaping practical solutions
* Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams while influencing stakeholders across complex matrix organisations
* Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
* Experience operating within large, regulated environments, ideally within Financial Services, Banking, or a similarly data-intensive industry
* Knowledge of modern data platforms, analytics, decision intelligence, and insight practices
* Experience establishing and embedding benefits realisation, value management, or outcome measurement frameworks
