Our year-round program immerses top students in critical projects alongside Managers, Mentors, and teams-fostering technical, professional, and personal growth while giving you a true taste of life at Tesla.
What To Expect
As an Analysis Engineering Intern on the Battery Team, you'll contribute to next-generation Tesla vehicle and energy storage battery designs at the forefront of innovation. You'll use cutting-edge CAE, FEA, and CFD tools to analyze and optimize battery pack/module performance, pushing cell limits while balancing manufacturing feasibility, safety, and efficiency. Expect a fast-paced, cross-functional environment demanding strong fundamentals, self-motivation, resilience to rapid changes, and meticulous attention to detail in support of design tradeoffs.
What You'll Do
* Analysis Engineering interns will work on projects supporting the design and production of current & future products
* Support manufacturing-centric battery pack/module designs using CAE, CFD, and FEA simulations, balancing performance, durability, crash safety, fatigue, battery safety, and innovative manufacturing methods.
* Perform simulations to evaluate sub-systems and full product attributes, including thermal, fluid, electrical, and structural performance.
* Build and calibrate models using existing frameworks or novel academic/industry methods, correlating with test data.
* Analyze test data, root-cause discrepancies, and produce clear, data-driven reports for design feedback.
* Conduct optimization studies (e.g., DOE/DFSS) on components/assemblies to meet mass, cost, and performance targets.
* Collaborate with Design, Test, and Modeling teams to enhance predictive capabilities, provide thermal/hydraulic/electrical feedback, and contribute to DFMEA/specifications.
* Participate in feasibility analyses for manufacturing, assembly, and service processes.
What You'll Bring
* Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (completion of statics, dynamics, and materials science courses required).
* Strong problem-solving skills and interest in analytical/numerical techniques.
* Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Volume Methods, and multidisciplinary domains (e.g., single/multi-phase CFD, thermal, coupled electrical-thermal CAE).
* Applied experience in COMSOL, ANSYS-FLUENT, STAR-CCM+; MATLAB and Simulink preferred.
* Demonstrated experience in stand-alone or coupled analysis of electronic components for thermal, fluid mechanics, electro-magnetism, and structural performance
