Job Summary
Job Description and Requirements
The Bioengineering and Automation (BE&A) group in BTI, headed by Dr. Cyrus Beh, develops engineering solutions for various biological applications, including biomaterials, fluidics, automation, and cell manipulation.
This position is for a Research Scientist, who will lead the effort in developing a multi-organ system non-animal model (NAM) for studying the absorption, transport, metabolism, and effects of food toxins. This will involve developing methodologies to form organotypic models of intestinal lining as well as liver organoids. The Scientist will also work with engineers in the team to design fluidic devices as well as automated flow control systems to perform real-time monitoring of various biomarkers. The goal of this project is to replace animal testing with less complex NAM systems, that will allow us to isolate the effects of potential toxins more quickly and accurately.
Duties And Responsibilities
* Lead, design and perform experiments involving, human cell cultures, organoid culture, biomaterials, cell and molecular biology
* Collaborate with BE&A team members in the development engineering systems including fluidic devices and flow control systems
* Coordinate collaboration with project team from IHLs and other A*STAR institutions
* Apply for individual research grants as part of career development
* Present findings at seminars, meetings and conferences
* Write manuscripts for publication
* Contribute to mentorship of students, interns and technicians in the laboratory
* Be an excellent team player to move science forward together
Requirements
* PhD in Bioengineering, Life Sciences or related fields
* Strong background in biomaterials, organoid culture, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry
* Demonstrated independent experience in assay development, fluidic device design will be considered favorably
* Track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications
* Dedication, motivation and passion in scientific research and learning
* Exceptional analytical, experimental design, technical and problem-solving skills
* Proficiency in communication, writing and editing scientific documents
* Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and efficiently in a team
We Offer
* A collaborative, supportive and stimulating environment with close mentorship to develop your scientific career
* Access to state-of-the-art technologies, scientific resources, core facilities and infrastructure housed within BTI, A*STAR and other A*STAR Research Institutes to facilitate your research work
* Access to collaborations with clinicians and industrial partners to translate findings from bench to bedside
