Catalog Games - Principal Unity Developer
We're looking for a Principal Unity Developer to join the Catalog Games - a lean team at King that manages nine games, soon to be ten.
As a Principal Unity Developer, you will define and drive the technical vision for Unity across the Catalog Games portfolio. Working closely with engineering leadership and game teams, you'll lead the maintenance and evolution of a newly acquired Unity title while evaluating migration strategies for our existing C++ and custom-engine titles, You will establish scalable architectural patterns, assess how Unity can support the future of our game portfolio, and help shape the technology landscape across multiple products. Combining hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership, you'll enable teams to deliver high-quality player experiences while building sustainable foundations for long-term development..
Responsibilities:
* Drive the long-term technical strategy for Unity within Catalog Games, identifying opportunities to improve development velocity, maintainability, scalability, and player experience across multiple titles.
* Lead major architectural initiatives, including evaluation and execution of migration strategies from custom engines and C++ codebases to Unity.
* Lead and manage a small team of Unity developers. Mentor senior engineers and help grow technical leadership capability across the organization.
* Provide technical leadership across the Catalog Games Unity portfolio while remaining deeply involved in implementation, prototyping, and solving the most complex engineering challenges.
* Collaborate closely with engineers and other disciplines (design, art, product, and QA) to deliver high-quality game experiences.
* Be a role model in coding practices, inspiring your team with an innovative mindset and helping uphold quality standards.
* Uphold quality through architecture/code reviews, testing, and feedback.
SKILLS TO CREATE THRILLS
* Deep expertise in Unity, C#, and software architecture.
* Strong architectural knowledge with the ability to quickly adapt to new codebases.
* Experience leading small teams and influencing engineering direction across multiple teams or products.
* Strong systems-thinking skills, with the ability to balance short-term delivery needs against long-term technical sustainability.
* Experience evaluating and applying emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development workflows, to improve engineering effectiveness and product quality.
* Previous experience as a people manager with direct reports, including performance management, coaching, career development, and fostering a healthy team culture.
* You are keen to grow and develop yourself and you are good at giving and receiving feedback.

* Build engineering experience (e.g. Jenkins)
* Experience in other languages such as C++ or Python.
