Planning Engineer

This position is currently in the Distribution planning section of the Outage Planning Department.
To apply high technical standards to network outage planning for the Distribution network.
Work with the System Operator & transmission network planners to co-ordinate all system users and network outage requirements on SPEN's distribution network ensuring the network remains safe and secure. Assist the Control Room with the delivery of all planned Distribution outages.
To apply high technical standards to operational outage planning for the Distribution network.
To develop contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies to secure our Distribution customers for major planned work on the Transmission & Distribution network.
What you'll be doing
Principle Accountabilities - Distribution
* Responsible for the co-ordination of all system users and network outages impacting the distribution network from two years ahead up to day ahead timescales to a high technical standard.
* Responsible for establishing an optimum level of pre-arranged IIS penalties against the need to carry out works on the distribution and transmission networks, providing workable recovery plans to the control room where appropriate in order to minimise potential IIS penalties
* Co-ordination and liaison with business areas across Energy Networks to understand implications of proposed works, driving to develop and implement contingency works to appropriately mitigate risk from distribution and transmission projects
* Establish and maintain excellent relationships with major customers.
* Intervene when necessary to ensure planning, safety and customer service standards are not compromised
What you'll bring
* Committed to achieving the highest standards of customer service
* Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
* Knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.
* Working knowledge of the relevant regulatory documentation.
* Awareness of network development policies and procedures.
* Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
* Developed customer service skills.
* Expert knowledge of the application of System Security Standards and the interplay with system capability elements
* Broad operational experience preferred, e.g. spanning Distribution/Transmission and possibly generation.
* Good understanding of the Company Safety Rules and supporting procedures for working on HV electrical equipment.
* Experience of PowerOn and PI systems
* Working knowledge of power system analysis tools and techniques demonstrating a detailed understanding of load flow and contingency analysis
Minimum Criteria
* Engineering qualification (electrical engineering preferred but not essential), degree level/HNC with significant relevant experience
* Relevant similar experience in an operational role
