Job Description:
Welcome to Space: We are looking for a Software Developer with a profound background in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation!
You will work in a team of remote sensing experts to develop satellite payload processing applications - for major ESA/EUMETSAT Earth Observation missions or also "NewSpace" endeavors. You should have an in-depth understanding of payload processing and retrieval methods for multi- and hyperspectral imagers and have a natural affinity to software development.
And yes, it is really cool to work on space projects!
This full-time and permanent position with an immediate starting date is based at our headquarters in Darmstadt.

Key Responsibilities
* Development and maintenance of L1 and L2 payload processing applications for multi- and hyperspectral missions, e.g. Sentinel-2 or PRISMA
* Optimization and refactoring of developed code to fulfill architectural and performance requirements
* Support the transfer and deployment of the processors to the operational environment
* Provide scientific support and take an active role in the formulation of requirements for future products and services

Essential Skills and Qualifications
* University degree (Master of Science) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline
* A PhD in a relevant discipline would be advantageous
* Very good understanding of scientific software development, remote sensing and algorithms
* Very good knowledge of Python, optimally including Jupyter notebooks
* Familiarity with Linux and shell scripting
* Working experience with remote sensing data
* Organised and methodical working attitude with strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation
* Proficiency in English

Desirable
* Hands-on experience with containerization standards (Docker, Kubernetes)
* Cloud-based computing and parallelization
* Familiarity with common formats, e.g. XML, netCDF or HDF
* Curious and proactive attitude towards problem solving and exploring new technologies
* Having worked within the space industry
