This Opportunity
The Geophysics Technician supports geophysical investigations by applying foundational knowledge of earth science, physics, and mathematics to assist in the collection, processing, and interpretation of subsurface data. As stated in the document, this role "contributes to the execution of field and office-based tasks that inform engineering, environmental, and resource development projects." Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the technician helps ensure data quality and consistency while gaining hands-on experience with geophysical survey techniques, industry standards, and client requirements. Responsibilities also include supporting project documentation, data analysis, and adherence to safety and regulatory protocols.
Your Impact
* Prepare, deploy, and maintain geophysical equipment and instrumentation.
* Participate in field data collection using seismic, resistivity, magnetics, and ground penetrating radar methods.
* Support the processing and preliminary interpretation of geophysical datasets under senior staff guidance.
* Assist in developing figures, reports, and documentation of geophysical findings.
* Review background data, maps, and project documentation to support field planning.
* Follow prescribed safety procedures and help maintain a safe work environment during field operations.
* Maintain organized records of field activities, calibration logs, and data files.
* Collaborate with team members to analyze and interpret basic geophysical data in geological and environmental contexts.
* Learn and apply standard geophysical software tools for data processing and visualization.
* Support integration of geophysical data with geological, environmental, or geotechnical information.
* Participate in internal meetings, trainings, and technical reviews.
* Assist with inventory management of geophysical equipment and supplies.
* Contribute to completing projects within defined scopes, schedules, and budgets.
* Demonstrate reliability, responsiveness to instructions, and sound judgment.
* Escalate non routine issues to senior team members.
* Comply with internal procedures, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
* Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
* Perform additional duties as required by project or business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Geophysics, Geoscience, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience.
* 0-1 year of relevant experience in geophysics or related fields.
* Basic understanding of geophysical principles and techniques (seismic, EM, GPR, magnetometry).
* Familiarity with geological mapping, subsurface investigations, and environmental data collection.
* Ability to work safely in varied outdoor environments and weather conditions.
* Interest in fieldwork and willingness to travel for extended field campaigns.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to follow technical instructions and work effectively in team settings.
* Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn geophysical software.
* Ability to accurately record, organize, and manage field data.
* Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
* Effective time management skills.
* Ability to lift, carry, and set up field equipment.
* Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem solving ability.
* Willingness to comply with site specific safety requirements.
* Adaptability to new tools, workflows, and procedures.

* Ability to work schedule is conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
* Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
* Internship or coursework focused on geophysics or environmental geoscience.
* Experience with data logging or GPS based survey systems.
* Familiarity with ArcGIS or other mapping software.
* Previous fieldwork or laboratory experience.
* Basic knowledge of regulatory or permitting considerations in environmental or engineering projects.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $49,600 - $55,800
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
