About the role:
The Transportation Analyst role combines operational execution support, financial rigor, and analytical insight to ensure transportation activities are efficient, compliant, and aligned with business objectives.
The role covers outbound transportation activities, including secondary distribution, carrier performance monitoring, cost control, service level analysis, and data-driven optimization initiatives within the logistics function.
The position interfaces closely with operations, finance, customer service, warehouse team, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs) to ensure transportation activities meet service, cost, safety, and compliance standards.
General Activities
Support daily, weekly, and monthly transportation operations through data analysis, reporting, and performance monitoring.
Track and analyze transportation critical metrics including cost, service level, utilization, and risk.
Provide operational insights to improve monthly performance through 3pl compliance services.
Support compliance with transportation regulations, safety standards, and internal policies.

Act as a key analytical interface between transportation operations, finance, procurement, customer service, and warehouse teams.
Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the Transportation Analyst role is to provide analytical insight and operational support that enables efficient, cost-effective, and reliable transportation execution. The role ensures transportation decisions are data-driven, aligned with business objectives, and continuously optimized to improve service levels, reduce logistics costs, and minimize operational risks.
This role aims to support and optimize transportation operations, reduce costs, enhance delivery performance, and improve overall customer satisfaction.
Operational Decisions:
· Monitoring transportation daily operation, influence transportation partners through business necessities focus on customer service approach, spend control and compliance.
Budget and Cost Management:
Authority to approve expenses within the allocated transportation budget, including costs related to third-party carrier services.
Review, handle transportation charges and billing documentation based on contract compliance
Define corrective actions and paths for addressing service, cost, or documentation deviations that involve a blocking issue.
Supplier and Vendor Management:
● Validate transportation critical metrics, service performance reports, and cost variances.
● Propose corrective actions related to carrier performance, service deviations, and cost inefficiencies.
Daily operation:
Recommend model and route optimization, load consolidation, and carrier allocation adjustments based on data analysis.
Technology and Systems Implementation:
Recommend, implement, and handle transportation management systems (TMS) and other technological tools to enhance efficiency.
Decide on adopting new technologies or software to improve route planning, shipment tracking, and data analysis.
Financial Accountability (Budget/Revenue)
The role is accountable for:
● Monitoring transportation costs versus budget and identifying variances.
● Supporting freight cost optimization initiatives and productivity improvements.
● Validating freight invoices, accessorial charges, and service penalties.
● Contributing to annual transportation cost reduction targets through analytics and continuous improvement initiatives.
Leadership Responsibilities
Although the role does not typically have direct reports, the Transportation Analyst is expected to:
● Influence cross-functional teams and transportation partners through data and insights.
● Act as a subject matter expert in transportation performance analytics.
● Support training and best-practice deployment related to transportation critical metrics and reporting.
● Lead or support continuous improvement and optimization projects within the transportation function.
Ensuring PO administration
Create, handle, and validate transportation-related purchase orders in ERP systems in accordance with approved budgets and rate cards.
Ensure purchase orders accurately reflect contracted rates, volumes, service levels, and accessorial charges.
Monitor PO consumption versus planned transportation spends and bring up deviations.
Coordinate PO corrections, closures, and adjustments with procurement, finance, and transportation teams.
Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails for transportation POs.

3PL Expense Reconciliation Monitoring
· Perform detailed reconciliation of transportation invoices from 3PLs and carriers against purchase orders, contracted rates, approved accessories.
· Support monthly freight accruals and financial closing processes.
Transportation Cost Analysis
Identify cost drivers, inefficiencies, and savings opportunities through trend and variance analysis.
Support budget planning, forecasting, and scenario modelling for transportation spend.
Develop cost-to-serve insights linking transportation cost with service level commitments.
Cross-Functional and External Interface
Act as a key analytical interface between transportation operations, finance, procurement, customer service, and warehouse teams.
Support carrier and 3PL performance reviews with data-driven insights.
Contribute to transportation tenders, rate negotiations, and network optimization initiatives through analytical support.
Enable management decision-making by translating complex transportation data into actionable recommendations.
