​​Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains (COMPANY NAME)'s operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​
​​The Azure PostgreSQL databases team is hiring Principal Software engineer to be part of PostgreSQL Opensource team. We are looking for engineers with experience in database internals, building distributed database systems, very hands on and passionate about opensource (with preference to PostgreSQL).

Our team consists of opensource PostgreSQL committers and contributors. You will be working with a geographically distributed and diverse team. You will get a chance to work on cutting edge database features across the PostgreSQL eco-system spanning from low level I/O to user facing query improvements. You will get to work closely with PostgreSQL community consisting of developers and users from many parts of the world and organizations.

In this role you will architect, design and develop features in opensource PostgreSQL. You will spend time working on PostgreSQL core engine improvements. You will have responsibilities surrounding technical mentoring of upcoming contributors, reviewing design and code changes in the community.

Additionally, you will consume the learnings from Azure managed PostgreSQL service and help curate the priorities which are beneficial for the community users as well as Azure customers. ​

Required/Minimum Qualifications
* ​​Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND Senior level technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
* OR equivalent experience.​
Other Requirements

Ability to meet (COMPANY NAME), customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: (COMPANY NAME) Cloud Background Check:
* This position will be required to pass the (COMPANY NAME) Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

* ​​Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field AND Senior level technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
* OR master's degree in computer science or related technical field and Senior level technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
* OR equivalent experience.
* Preferred PostgreSQL demonstrated track record of contributing to the PostgreSQL project at committer level.​
