Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting: The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions. This job opening announcement broadcasts an internship opportunity with OCHA in New York. The intern, under the general guidance of a primary supervisor, shall be assigned to Evaluation and Oversight Unit (EOU). This internship shall be based in New York, USA, and the intern will be under the general guidance and direct supervision of OCHA-New York supervisor. The internship is being offered full-time, in the hybrid or in-person mode, for a minimum period of three (3) months, with a possibility of extension up to a maximum period of six (6) months, beginning at a mutually agreed time. Responsibilities: The Evaluation and Oversight Unit manages evaluations of OCHA's work and of the wider humanitarian response, and monitors the implementation of recommendations from these evaluations, as well as from audits, reviews and other assessments. For more information, see https://www.unocha.org/themes/evaluationsand-reviews Duties may include, but are not limited to: *Researches, analyses and presents information gathered from diverse sources on assigned topics/issues. *Supports the planning and organization of meetings and briefings. *Drafts meeting notes, background papers and other documents, undertaking research in thematic areas if necessary. *Helps design various information materials, including publication covers, presentation templates, flyers, infographics and social media visuals. *Proposes ideas and solutions for better management of the Section's information and knowledge products. *Identifies opportunities for OCHA's evaluation products to reach a wider audience. *Assists in collecting comments from stakeholders and in reviewing project documents. *Contributes to the preparation of various written documents, e.g. drafts sections of evaluations, background papers, etc. *Maintains and uploads documents on team website. *Collaborates with programme/project managers on performance monitoring. *Researches and monitors a wide range of UN developments and news sources, including press releases, statements, news conferences, briefings and meetings for key developments, news or events relevant to specific evaluations. *Assists in preparing dissemination plans of ongoing evaluations and related documents, including presentations, one-pagers, flayers, etc. *Assists in the Section's work on evaluation and oversight. *Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). The University degree must be in political science, social science, international development, public administration, or in a related field. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Familiarity with the United Nations system is required. Proficiency in data visualization and statistical or design software, such as InDesign, Canva, Stata, or similar tools, is highly desirable. Publications in the field of international development, climate change, gender, natural disasters and/or armed conflicts are desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is highly desirable.
