Microbiology Intern

This internship is designed for high-performing undergraduate students in Biotechnology, Microbiology, or related disciplines. It offers meaningful project-based experience in the medical device industry, supporting Smith+Nephew's objectives while helping interns develop skills, explore career paths, and build future employment opportunities.
What will you be doing?
* Work closely with managers to complete specifically identified projects.
* Present project conclusions to senior leadership.
* Coordinate sample preparation and testing with third-party testing laboratories, including liaising with vendors for sampling arrangements, raising purchase orders (as required), and completing test request forms.
* Perform sampling and analysis related to the Microbiology department, either independently or as a supporting team member, as required.
* Review testing results from external laboratories and perform internal reporting, compilation, and analysis, with the ability to identify and highlight any errors or issues.
* Participate in problem-solving activities and validation preparations as required, including but not limited to the preparation of samples for sterilization validations.
* Perform other tasks as assigned.
What will you need to be successful?
* This internship is open to undergraduate students currently enrolled in an accredited university, majoring in Biotechnology, Microbiology, or a related discipline, with a strong academic record (CGPA 3.0 preferred). Candidates should preferably be located near the company to support project-based work, including ad-hoc sampling and testing. Prior internship, part-time, or apprenticeship experience is an added advantage.
* The role requires basic microbiology knowledge, foundational programming skills, and the ability to utilize Power Apps, including co-designing management information systems related to Microbiology. Ideal candidates demonstrate leadership potential, strong communication and technical writing skills, high learning agility, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, effective time management, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines in a dynamic environment are essential.
