Come and join us in building the infrastructure our planet needs to achieve a sustainable future.We are seeking an experienced and detail-focused Document Controller to support the structured management of engineering and project information for a major Water infrastructure scheme. The role involves controlling technical documentation in line with ISO 19650 principles, quality assurance processes, and project workflows within a Tier 1 contractor environment, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant information across the project lifecycle at the Thames Water plant at Coppermills in London E17.

This is a key, senior role supporting engineering, construction, health & safety, and handover activities, working closely with project teams, subcontractors, and the client to maintain robust information management standards.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

* Manage and maintain document control processes in line with ISO 19650 and project procedures
* Control engineering and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle
* Register, issue, track, and archive documents using the project CDE
* Manage transmittals, version control, revision status, and approval workflows
* Ensure metadata consistency and correctly file naming conventions are applied
* Coordinate document reviews with engineering disciplines and external stakeholders
* Maintain document registers, deliverables trackers, and audit trails
* Support internal and external audits, ensuring document compliance with QA systems
* Control H&S documentation including CDM-related records
* Produce weekly document status and progress reports
* Support procurement, construction, and commissioning teams with controlled documentation
* Manage and support handover documentation, including:
* As-built records
* O&M manuals
* H&S files

Required Skills and Competencies
Document Control, Standards & Compliance
* Strong working knowledge of ISO 19650 information management principles
* Understanding of BS EN standards relevant to engineering documentation
* Experience working within quality assurance frameworks and audit environments

Construction & Infrastructure Project Experience
* Proven experience working for Main Contractors or Tier 1 contractors
* Background in water, wastewater, utilities, heavy civils, or infrastructure projects
* Familiarity with:
* Method Statements
* ITPs
* Technical Submittals
* RFIs
* As-built documentation
* O&M manuals
* Understanding of CDM Regulations and health & safety documentation control

Information Management & Workflow Skills
* Confident managing:
* Transmittals and document issue processes
* Revision and change control
* Approval and review workflows
* Deliverables register and document schedules
* Experience setting up and maintaining:
* Folder structures
* User permissions
* Workflows within Common Data Environments (CDEs)
Software & Technical Skills
* Strong experience with document management systems such as:
* SharePoint
* Autodesk platforms
* ThinkProject
* ProjectWise
* Advanced Microsoft skills (Excel, Outlook, Word)
* Knowledge of BIM naming conventions
* Experience using PDF mark-up tools (Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat Pro)
* Ability to manage large CAD file sets and file conversions
* Excel dashboard or Power BI exposure is desirable but not essential

Soft Skills & Ways of Working
* Exceptional attention to detail, particularly for revision control
* Confident in liaising with engineers, subcontractors, and client teams
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to challenge and push back diplomatically where standards are not met
* Capable of training and guiding project teams on document control processes and systems
* Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities
