Duties and Responsibilities
Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. This internship is located in the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva, Switzerland. The internship is in-person and reports to the Head of Campaign and Community. The intern will support the team in advancing the organization's strategic communications and digital engagement efforts, contributing to global campaigns that promote disaster risk reduction and the Sendai Framework. Tasks will include: Support the development of clear, engaging and impactful messaging for campaigns aligned with UNDRR's mission and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Contribute to the planning and implementation of UNDRR's global campaigns, including the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, World Tsunami Awareness Day, International Day in Memory of the Victims of Earthquakes, and other key observances, with a focus on digital-first outreach. Draft, edit and schedule social media content across relevant platforms, ensuring consistency in tone, branding and messaging. Monitor social media trends and analytics to identify opportunities for engagement, optimize content performance and support reporting on digital campaign impact.Contribute to the development of multimedia content including social media graphics, short videos, reels, animations, infographics and other visual assets in line with UNDRR's branding guidelines. Communicate and collaborate with external vendors who support the production of creative content for UNDRR Support the design and production of digital publications and communication materials, ensuring visual coherence and brand consistency. Assist in maintaining and strengthening UNDRR's visual identity by applying branding guidelines across digital platforms and campaign materials. Conduct background research, identify content and prepare talking points and briefing materials to support digital storytelling and campaign narratives. Provide logistical and administrative support for events, webinars and online engagement activities. Coordinate with UNDRR teams, regional offices and external partners to ensure alignment and timely delivery of social media content, multimedia assets and publications. Support the team with administrative tasks, including maintaining documentation, preparing meeting notes and coordinating internal communications.

Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent). In addition; - Applicants must demonstrate creativity and the ability to conceive and produce engaging designs and compelling messaging, with strong attention to detail, as well as a demonstrated interest in disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, sustainable development, and related issues. - Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams as well as design applications such as Canva. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Premiere Pro is desirable. - Ability to draft campaign pitches is desirable - Applicants must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. - Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.(required need to be checked) Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
