Role Description:
We are seeking a co-op student to join the Disaster and Climate Resilience Solutions Team in Vancouver, British Columbia for Fall 2026, starting in September. This position will work directly with Arcadis Canada staff in the Disaster and Climate Resilience Solutions team.
Supported by industry-leading technical and professional staff, the Co-op student will work closely with the team on a wide range of activities including research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, workshop design, proposal development, and project implementation. The work spans across different climate hazards, risks, and solutions in different sectors (transportation, water and wastewater, urban planning, and government).
You will join a team of forward-thinking practitioners, our work combines creativity, science, engineering, and policy design to deliver practical, innovative solutions for disaster risk management and climate adaptation in Canada.
Role Accountabilities:
Working closely with Arcadis' multidisciplinary Disaster and Climate Resilience Solutions team, the co-op student will support research, analysis, and engagement activities that help inform practical, locally relevant approaches aligned with leading practices.
During this time, you will have the opportunity to contribute to different components of the team's existing projects and business development activities such as:
* Conduct literature reviews and background research on climate hazards, vulnerabilities, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation best practices (e.g. Sendai Framework, DCRRA).
* Review Canadian and international case studies to identify relevant examples, lessons learned, and emerging approaches.
* Support climate and hazard data collection, including organizing publicly available climate, geospatial, and vulnerability data
* Developing maps and other graphic materials for inclusion in project presentations, reports, and community engagement materials.
* Supporting public engagement and stakeholder engagement activities, including interviews with local authorities, Indigenous partners, and community representatives.
* Supporting the preparation of clear, well-structured technical content and helping translate technical information into accessible materials for municipal audiences and decision-making.
More broadly, the intern will support ongoing climate adaptation and resilience projects as needed, collaborating with planners, engineers, scientists, and policy specialists, and assisting with related analyses such as climate risk assessments, resilience strategy development, and community engagement initiatives.
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual with strong research, writing, and communication skills, and a demonstrated interest in climate adaptation and resilience planning. The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of managing multiple tasks concurrently, and comfortable working collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is essential, and experience with GIS or data analysis tools is considered an asset.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications
* To be eligible for an internship or co-op, you must be actively pursuing a BS, MS, or graduate level degree in civil or environmental engineering, urban studies, development planning, geography, natural resources, public policy, or another relevant field.
* Familiarity working with GIS software (i.e., ESRI or QGIS)
Preferred Qualifications
* Working towards master's in civil or environmental engineering, urban studies, development planning, geography, natural resources, public policy or another relevant field
* Experience working in the coastal restoration, flood risk resilience, project implementation, environmental review, or infrastructure and resilience grants management fields
* One or more of the following: Proficiency with ESRI GIS software, specifically ArcGIS Pro

The salary range for this position is $27.92-$41.88 per hour. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
