The Opportunity
Soben, part of Accenture, is seeking an experienced Planning Engineer to join our growing team in Luxembourg.
This role offers the opportunity to work on some of Europe's most complex and exciting construction and infrastructure projects, providing expert planning and scheduling support across the entire project lifecycle.
You will act as a technical specialist in project planning, scheduling, and programme controls, working closely with clients, contractors, project managers, and multidisciplinary delivery teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
The successful candidate will have strong experience developing and managing complex project schedules, implementing robust planning controls, and providing insightful reporting that supports informed decision-making and successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Scheduling
* Serve as a technical expert in project lifecycle planning and scheduling, applying industry best practices and emerging methodologies.
* Develop, implement, and maintain integrated project schedules that support project objectives, milestones, and delivery requirements.
* Establish and manage baseline programmes and ensure appropriate approvals are obtained.
* Create and maintain logic-linked schedules that accurately reflect project scope, sequencing, dependencies, and resource requirements.
* Monitor schedule performance against key milestones and project deliverables.
Programme Controls & Reporting
* Update project schedules with actual progress and forecast remaining durations.
* Produce detailed schedule reports, progress updates, and planning narratives for clients and project stakeholders.
* Identify critical paths, schedule risks, delays, and opportunities for programme optimisation.
* Recommend mitigation and recovery plans where required.
* Ensure planning information effectively supports project management decision-making.
Earned Value Management & Performance Monitoring
* Develop, implement, and maintain earned value management (EVM) systems and reporting processes.
* Analyse schedule and performance data to measure project progress and productivity.
* Provide timely performance insights and recommendations to project teams and senior stakeholders.
* Ensure reporting aligns with client requirements and project governance frameworks.
Risk & Change Management
* Prepare and manage schedule risk analyses to forecast programme contingencies and potential impacts.
* Identify planning challenges and develop practical mitigation strategies.
* Ensure robust change management processes are implemented across programmes.
* Maintain a comprehensive audit trail of programme changes and impacts to scope, cost, and schedule.
Stakeholder Management
* Collaborate with project teams, contractors, engineering teams, commercial teams, and site personnel throughout project delivery.
* Facilitate planning workshops, progress meetings, and schedule review sessions.
* Build strong relationships with clients and delivery partners to support successful project outcomes.
* Challenge project information constructively and proactively to ensure accurate programme reporting.
Leadership & Mentoring
* Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior planners and project controls professionals.
* Support the development of planning best practices across the business.
* Foster collaboration across programme controls disciplines, including cost management, risk management, and project reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
* Proven experience working as a Planning Engineer or Project Planner within construction, infrastructure, engineering, or capital project environments.
* Advanced experience using Primavera P6 for project scheduling, resource planning, and expenditure tracking.
* Strong understanding of project controls, planning methodologies, and schedule management principles.
* Experience working with complex construction or infrastructure programmes.
* Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
* Experience operating within multidisciplinary and matrix-style project teams.
* High proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred
* Experience working under NEC3 or NEC4 contracts, with a strong understanding of planning requirements.
* Formal qualifications in planning, scheduling, project controls, or project management.
* On-site construction experience.
* Experience delivering planning services on data centre, infrastructure, energy, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or mission-critical projects.
* Knowledge of schedule risk analysis and earned value methodologies.
* Fluency in English, with French and/or German language skills considered advantageous.
