Job Description

WSP in the Middle East is seeking a motivated Intern - Fire & Life Safety to support our specialist Fire & Life Safety team on a range of building and infrastructure projects. This internship offers hands-on exposure to fire engineering, life-safety design, and regulatory compliance within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

The role is ideal for students or recent graduates eager to gain practical experience and build a foundation in Fire & Life Safety engineering.

Responsibilities

* Assist in the preparation of Fire & Life Safety strategies, reports, and technical deliverables.
* Perform research to inform performance-based design engineering analysis.
* Assist in the development and preparation of Fire Engineering Briefs and fire test methodologies.
* Support life - safety design reviews, including means of egress, fire zoning, and occupancy calculations.
* Assist with code compliance checks against relevant standards (UAE Fire & Life Safety Code, IBC, NFPA, British Standards).
* Support coordination with architecture, MEP, and structural teams to integrate fire safety requirements.
* Assist in preparing authority submission documents and responding to review comments under supervision.
* Participate in site visits and inspections, supporting senior engineers during construction stages.
* Maintain project documentation and support internal quality processes.

Qualifications

* Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Basic understanding of fire protection systems, life-safety principles, and building codes.
* Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
* Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); exposure to AutoCAD or Revit is an advantage.
* Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
* Eagerness to learn, with a collaborative and professional approach.
