The Milan branch was founded in 2006 and is a booking branch of the German subsidiary since 2019. Its staff is limited to Business units and Control&Support (including Finance&Control).
Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We're looking for an Intern - Finance & Control to join our Finance & Control Department in Milan.
This internship offers hands-on experience within the finance function of a leading global bank, providing valuable professional exposure in an international, collaborative and inclusive environment.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
* Supporting the Finance & Control team with daily accounting and administrative activities
* Assisting with monthly financial reporting, reconciliations and analysis
* Contributing to finance-related processes in line with internal and regulatory standards
For you to succeed in the role, you'll need to have:
* Ongoing studies in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field
* Strong Excel skills and a high level of attention to detail
* Good English communication skills and a proactive, learning-oriented mindset
Position Description
About this role
This internship role supports the Finance & Control function of the SMBC Milan Branch in delivering accurate financial reporting and effective operational support. The role contributes to core finance activities, helping the department meet internal requirements and regulatory obligations.
You will collaborate closely with Finance & Control colleagues, internal stakeholders within the Milan branch, and international teams across SMBC Group EMEA.
Our role will enable you to:
* Support daily accounting activities, invoice processing and finance administration
* Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reconciliations
* Contribute to intra- and intercompany fee reconciliations
* Support analysis related to IFRS 9 provisions and portfolio reconciliations
* Gain exposure to regulatory and financial reporting processes within an international banking environment
What will you bring to the role?
* Enrollment in a degree programme in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a comparable discipline
* Initial exposure to finance or accounting through studies or previous internships
* Very good Excel skills; Power BI knowledge is an advantage
* Strong organisational skills, accuracy and willingness to learn
* Ability to work effectively in an international and multicultural team
* Good written and spoken English
Desirable:
* Previous internship experience within banking, finance or accounting
* Basic understanding of financial or regulatory reporting concepts
