Duties and Responsibilities
This UNPAID internship is full-time (35 hours per week) and in person, based at the United Nations premises in New York, USA. The expected duration of the internship is six (6) months. While the internship is designed to be full-time and in person, arrangements may be adjusted based on the needs of the selected candidate to allow for a part-time internship (20 hours per week) and/or hybrid working arrangements with opportunities for remote work. This position is located in the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Facility within the Front Office of the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO), part of the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO). The WPS Facility strengthens gender-responsive rule of law support to Member States, UN entities, justice and security institutions and other stakeholders, in line with international gender equality norms and the Security Council Resolutions WPS. It also supports the work of the Front Office on broader gender-related issues, including with regards to peace operation transitions. Under the overall supervision of the Gender Affairs Officer, the incumbent will be responsible, among others, for: * Providing research support for the project "Accelerating the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and Young Women's Empowerment through UN Assistance to Rule of Law and Security Institutions (Phase II)" and for other activities advancing the implementation of the PBPSO Gender Strategy and the WPS Facility's Action Plan. * Supporting work on issues related to peacekeeping transitions. * Monitoring UN bodies' proceedings, reports and other developments related to gender/WPS, ensuring that relevant focal points are kept appraised of key updates. * Participating in assigned UN and external meetings on gender/WPS and ensure the timely preparation of summary notes. * Assisting with the organization of meetings and consultations with internal and external counterparts, including by managing invitations, supporting logistics, and preparing background and briefing materials, presentations and summary notes. * Supporting the development and coordination of inputs to relevant UN reports, policy documents and other products. * Supporting strategic communication efforts and engagement with external partners, including through stakeholder mapping and drafting outreach materials. * Providing administrative and knowledge management support, including maintaining and updating SharePoint sites, contact lists, and datasets on gender equality. * Performing any other duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Excel.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
