Wound Closure & Healing and Biosurgery (WCHB) is part of the Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery organization, which develops a broad portfolio of surgical technologies including sutures, skin adhesives, hemostasis solutions, staplers, trocars, energy devices, and synthetic mesh used across minimally invasive and open procedures.
The WCHB R&D team in Raritan, NJ is excited to welcome applicants for our Wound Closure & Healing R&D Co-Op - Fall 2026 opportunity. Key Responsibilities:
* Perform hands-on laboratory work within chemistry and engineering labs.
* Conduct studies and develop test methods, fixtures, and related evaluation approaches.
* Maintain strong documentation practices, including drafting test protocols, final reports, and meeting minutes.
* Build and assess prototypes.
* Participate in Voice-of-Customer (VOC) labs.
* Collaborate with engineers and external suppliers to support project activities.
Qualifications:
Education:
*
Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Required Skills:
* Actively enrolled (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited college or university during the co-op term.
* Completion of at least the freshman year.
* Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the co-op session.
* Proficiency in basic chemistry laboratory techniques.
* Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and effective oral and written communication.
* Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
* Able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
* Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
* Ability to provide reliable transportation to the work location.
Preferred Skills:
* Minimum GPA of 3.5.
* Knowledge of polymer chemistry and characterization.
Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :$23.00/hr to $51.50/hr
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:The expected pay range for this position is between $23.00 per hour and $51.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension).
