The Fit4Rail Program is a foundational university Vacation program originally developed under major rail infrastructure projects and designed to introduce students to careers in the modern railway sector through structured, hands on exposure within Siemens Mobility
Role Headline
The Fit4Rail Program provides structured, practical learning exposure for university students, enabling them to acquire foundational technical and business knowledge across modern railway systems through supervised, real world experience within Siemens Mobility
Program Overview
Targeting mainly undergraduate students from engineering disciplines (electrical, mechanical, electronics, mechatronics, IT) and business-related fields, the program follows an intern centered, modular learning approach.
The program typically runs for 9 weeks (45 working days) and combines:
* Structured onboarding and orientation
* Lot specific technical training across key railway sub systems
* Guided workplace exposure and site visits
* Continuous evaluation and formal program certification
The program aims to raise awareness of railways as advanced mobility solutions, build foundational subsystem knowledge, strengthen Siemens' employer brand, and identify high potential early talent.
Responsibilities of the Role
* Participants in the Fit4Rail Program will:
* Participate in a structured onboarding and orientation program to understand Siemens Mobility, safety standards, and program expectations.
* Gain hands on exposure to key railway sub systems such as rolling stock, depots, electrification, EHS, AFC, signalling, and service & maintenance (depending on discipline and availability).
* Support host teams with supervised technical or business related tasks aligned to their field of study.
* Attend technical classroom sessions and site visits to enhance understanding of real world railway operations.
* Work under the guidance of assigned managers and mentors who provide coaching, feedback, and performance evaluation.
* Participate in assessments, learning reviews, and program completion activities leading to certification.
* Adhere to Siemens' safety, quality, and compliance standards at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
* Currently enrolled undergraduate or recent graduate student
* Academic background in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Mechatronics, IT) or Business-related disciplines
* Strong academic performance and interest in the rail or mobility sector
* No prior work experience required (prior internships considered an advantage)
* Projects Experience (Advantageous)Attributes and skills
* Strong willingness to learn and adapt in a technical environment
* Analytical thinking and problem solving ability
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Team oriented approach with a professional attitude
* Ability to follow instructions, meet deadlines, and work under supervision
* High level of curiosity and enthusiasm for engineering, infrastructure, and mobility systems
