This is consistent with the World Bank Group's mission to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet. As of April 2026, the World Bank is providing $9.0 billion to Tanzania, financing 34 operations in support of job creation by boosting human capital, stimulating private sector growth, and enhancing resilience to shocks. The portfolio combines Investment Project Financing for physical and social infrastructure, Development Policy Financing supporting policy reform and institutional actions, and Program-for-Results financing supporting program design and implementation with emphasis on strengthening institutions, systems, and building capacity. In FY25, IFC commitments reached $360 million, and the FY26-27 investment pipeline stands at $864 million, with an outstanding portfolio of $307 million. IFC is diversifying into agribusiness, light manufacturing, and tourism - key enablers of job creation. IFC also manages a $13.2 million advisory portfolio focused on gender inclusion, digital financial services, agribusiness, financial management, and affordable housing. IFC's work focuses on strengthening agricultural value chains, improving financial access for SMEs, and advancing power and telecom infrastructure. Effective communication is central to the World Bank Group's engagement in Tanzania. It supports transparency around the Bank's development program, builds public understanding of ongoing operations, and strengthens the institution's relationships with government counterparts, the media, civil society, and the public. Timely media and social media monitoring also plays a critical role in identifying emerging issues early and helping the Country Office anticipate and manage reputational risk to the World Bank Group and its operations in Tanzania. To support this work, the World Bank Country Office in Tanzania is seeking a Communications Intern to join its External Affairs team. The intern will support media monitoring, social media management, and broader communications activities that help the Country Office effectively convey the results and impact of its programs in Tanzania. The intern will report to the Senior External Affairs Officer in Tanzania. The anticipated duration of the internship is five months, part-time. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Media monitoring (English and Kiswahili). The intern will monitor local and online media daily to produce a single, two-part daily media monitoring report for the Tanzania World Bank country team - an English media digest and a Kiswahili press summary - shared electronically by 10:30 a.m. every weekday. Both sections should capture significant developments across all sectors financed by the World Bank Group in Tanzania, all news relating to the World Bank's work in the country (projects, events, and commentary), and other important national developments, including those of political significance, with the intern exercising sound judgment on what qualifies as significant. English media digest: A verbatim compilation of relevant English-language print, online, social media, and broadcast (TV and radio) stories on Tanzania, drawing primarily on local outlets such as The Chanzo, The Citizen, The Guardian, and Daily News, supplemented by relevant international coverage identified through internet searches. Each story must cite its source (link and/or outlet name). Kiswahili press summary: A summary, translated into English, of relevant Kiswahili-language stories from newspapers, online platforms, and broadcast outlets (where available online), not exceeding three pages, with each story's source indicated. The focus will be on key outlets such as Mwananchi, Nipashe, and Habari Leo, as well as prominent online Kiswahili platforms. 2.The intern is expected to use available AI tools - including WBG's mAI - to support search, translation, and summarization of Kiswahili content, and to accelerate first-pass drafting of the daily report, while retaining editorial judgment and final quality control over what is included and how it is framed. 3. Social media monitoring and content support. The intern will monitor social media platforms daily to identify coverage and commentary relevant to the World Bank Group's work and programs in Tanzania. This includes tracking posts on Twitter (X), Instagram, TikTok, Instagram and other platforms, as well as relevant blogs. The intern will flag any updates requiring Management attention. The intern will use AI-assisted tools where appropriate to monitor volume and sentiment trends across platforms and to draft initial responses or briefs for review, enabling faster turnaround on time-sensitive items. 4. Social media strategy and planning support. The intern will help translate the Country Office's social media objectives into an action plan aligned with World Bank Social Media Guidelines, maintain the content calendar, support audience research and feedback analysis, and track emerging trends - including in AI-driven content - relevant to public communications. The intern will also help monitor social media metrics, support KPI development, and contribute to performance reporting, using analytics and AI tools to generate insights efficiently. 5. Results storytelling: The intern will periodically support the development of multimedia documentation of results from World Bank Group-supported operations in Tanzania. This will entail travel within the country and will include conducting interviews with beneficiaries and other stakeholders, writing web features, and capturing photos and video to accompany them. The intern will use AI-assisted tools to support tasks such as interview transcription, first-draft editing, and light photo/video editing, while ensuring all published content is fact-checked, appropriately sourced, and reflects authentic beneficiary voices and consent
