Governing body for tennis in the United States. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for tennis in the United States. Founded in 1881 and headquartered in the United States, it is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to growing and promoting tennis at every level. USTA owns and operates the US Open, manages major tennis infrastructure including the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, and serves over 700,000 individual members along with more than 7,000 organizational members. The organization fields teams for major international competitions and oversees national tournaments. USTA is also committed to developing the sport through community programs and its philanthropic arm, the USTA Foundation, which supports tennis and education for youth in under-resourced areas.
