Job Description:
Job TitleApprentice SENA Business Analyst
About the business area/department:
The ABR (Amadeus Business Rules) team manages Amadeus's corporate rule engine, which allows applications to define and customize business processes using functional criteria without development constraints
This position is to be hired under the SENA Apprentice contract.
Summary of the Internship:
The apprentice will work on the following projects and areas:
Core Product - ABR Suite (MDS)
The main project is the ABR rule engine itself, built on a C++ Open Back-End called MDS (Middleware Data Server). This includes the four ABR products:
* Rules - business rule management
* Markets - geographical location aggregation
* Point of Sale - purchase point identification
* Flight Groups - flight aggregation
In this role, you will provide functional support, help with documentation and knowledge management, be involved in requirements analysis, and in implementation management (with primary focus on the latter).
In this role you'll:
* Attend the Daily Stand-up (~15 min) - share progress on assigned TRs and implementation tasks, flag blockers or dependencies with client teams
* Check Jira board for new or updated implementation requests (TRs) assigned to you
* Monitor the ABR Support Teams channel for functional questions from client application teams (e.g., "Why is my rule not being applied?", "How do I configure a new market?")
* Review Win@proach / ServiceNow queue for incoming implementation or support cases
* Analyze implementation requests - read TR specifications from client teams, understand the business logic they need, and determine how to translate it into ABR rule type configurations
* Work in Rule Type Designer (RTD) - create, modify, clone, and configure rule types based on client requirements. This includes setting criteria, defining rule type structures, and configuring SI parameters
* Validate configurations - use the ABR Viewer and ABR Test Tool to verify that rule types behave as expected before promoting to higher environments
* Promote implementations across environments - move validated rule types from DEV → PDT → UAT → PRD, coordinating with client teams for testing at each stage
* Respond to client queries - answer functional questions from the 200+ application teams that consume ABR, explaining rule behavior, providing guidance on how to use ABR features, and troubleshooting unexpected results
* Document everything - update Confluence pages with implementation details, write functional specifications, and record lessons learned
* Coordinate with the development team - when an implementation requires a code change or a new feature, work with the ABR developers to define the requirement and validate the solution
* Triage functional support cases - investigate issues like "rule not found", "wrong market returned", "unexpected fallback behavior"
* Reproduce and analyze - use ABR tools to trace how the system evaluated criteria and why a specific rule was or wasn't applied
* Communicate findings - write clear investigation summaries and share them with the client team and the ABR development team if a code fix is needed
Technologies you will use:
* Tools needed to perform the implementations
* Basic knowledge of systems
* SQL
Technology/skills you will learn:
* Eliciting requirements - learning to ask the right questions to client application teams
* Translating business needs into functional specifications - documenting what the system should do in a way both business and technical teams understand
* Gap analysis - identifying what's missing between a client's request and ABR's current capabilities.
* End-to-end implementation process - from receiving a TR to production deployment
About the ideal candidate:
* University degree/SENA degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field.
* Analytical thinking: Ability to break down complex problems, interpret data, and trace cause-effect relationships
* Communication: Clear written and verbal skills - writing specs, presenting in meetings, explaining issues to clients
* Technical aptitude: Basic understanding of software concepts (databases, APIs, client-server), basic SQL (mandatory), and proficiency in Excel/Sheets
* Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to collaborate in group settings (university, internships, or extracurriculars)
* Innovation & Problem Solving
* Self-Responsibility
* English proficiency (desirable)
This position is to be hired under the SENA Apprentice contract.
