Context & Environment
TotalEnergies' core value is the safety of its collaborators. Some of our facilities are located on riverbanks, with transport occurring mainly by waterway. Weather conditions can cause the water level in these rivers to change rapidly and significantly, presenting a risk of flooding or navigability challenges. Predicting these water levels is highly dependent on weather forecasts, resulting in complex time series that require the use of modern artificial intelligence methods, including uncertainty quantification.
Activities
As a Junior Data Science R&D Mathematical Engineer, your main mission will be to develop modern deep learning models for complex time series forecasting.
* The first objective is to work on long-term weather predictions using generative AI modeling methods from scientific literature (such as flow matching, for example).
* The second aspect involves using these predictions and their uncertainty to infer a height with an AI model for dynamic systems (such as State Space Models, for example).
This work will lead to a publication and may continue as a PhD thesis.

Candidate Profile
Have you recently graduated with a Master's degree (Bac +5) in Data Science, Computer Science, or AI? Start your career with an exciting experience at the heart of international teams committed to the energy transition!
We are looking for a Junior Data Science R&D Mathematical Engineer (M/F) for a 12-month position starting in February 2026.
Are you comfortable with Python programming and development tools? You will use them to design and test AI models.
Is optimization and machine learning among your areas of expertise? You will work on advanced challenges related to time series analysis.
Strong writing skills and professional proficiency in English will be essential for success in this role.
We offer a 12-month full-time Professionalization Contract (100% in-company) including a training component (technical, language, tools…). These trainings are delivered internally by organizations selected by TotalEnergies.
This contract will allow you to gain one year of professional experience while being trained in the specificities of your role in connection with the Company's activities.
