The Tesla Cost Engineering team is looking to hire a skilled cost engineering intern. The Supply Chain Cost Engineering Intern will support the Cost Engineering team in analysing product costs, developing cost models, and identifying cost optimization opportunities across supplier and manufacturing networks.
This internship provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes, supplier cost structures, should cost analysis, and value engineering activities. The intern will work closely with Cost Engineers, Supply Chain Manager, and Engineering teams to support sourcing decisions and improve cost transparency.
This role is ideal for students interested in manufacturing, supply chain strategy, engineering economics, and cost analysis.
What You'll Do
* Assist in building should-cost models for components and assemblies.
* Support analysis of supplier quotations and cost breakdowns.
* Support development of cost benchmarking databases.
* Assist in tracking commodity prices, labour rates, and manufacturing rates across global markets.
* Participate in product teardown activities to analyse component design and manufacturing methods.
* Document findings related to materials, manufacturing processes, and cost drivers.
* Support creation of teardown reports highlighting cost optimization opportunities.
* Assist with maintaining cost analysis dashboards and reports used by the supply chain team.
* Support preparation of presentations and summaries used for sourcing decisions and internal reviews.
What You'll Bring
* Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Engineering Economics, Data Analytics or related field.
* Ability to successfully work with cross range of teams including purchasing, engineering, legal, finance and operations.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings or BOM structures (preferred).
* Basic understanding of cost modelling or financial analysis.
* Strong written and verbal communications across technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Proficiency in the use of Microsoft tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, MS Teams), JIRA, Confluence or similar tools/technologies.
* Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
