Job Description
A key challenge on the path to climate neutrality is storing power generated by renewable sources, for example in the form of hydrogen. Operating the solid oxide cell (SOC) in electrolysis mode as a solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) enables the direct conversion of electrical energy into chemical energy. Due to its operating temperature of 600 °C and above, the SOEC has the highest electrical efficiency among electrolysis technologies, making it a very promising technology for the hydrogen economy of the future. To improve our understanding of processes occurring during SOEC operation, the cells are experimentally characterized to determine their performance and to provide data for parameterizing or validating physical models that predict cell performance or aging.
* During your internship, you will experimentally characterize SOEC single cells using electrochemical techniques, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and current-voltage characteristics.
* You will support the commissioning of a new test bench, encompassing its initial operation, from software to hardware components, including high-precision measurement devices.
* Last but not least, you will evaluate experimental data and present the results to an interdisciplinary team
Candidate Requirements:
Qualifications
* Education: studies in the field of Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or comparable with very good grades
* Experience and Knowledge: prior laboratory experience
* Personality and Working Practice: you are an effective team player who adapts well to new challenges; you demonstrate passion for your tasks, operate autonomously and remain dedicated to objectives by systematically planning your activities
* Languages: very good in English and good in German
