Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We're looking for an Intern (f/m/d) for our Tax & Product Control (F&C) team to join us.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience within an international banking environment while supporting a dynamic team across Product Control and Tax activities. You'll work on meaningful projects, develop valuable technical and analytical skills, and collaborate with experienced professionals across finance functions.
In this role you will be responsible for:
* Supporting Product Control activities including reporting, reconciliations, and derivative portfolio analysis
* Assisting the Tax team with tax returns, invoicing processes, and tax-related documentation
* Contributing to projects, process improvements, and research related to financial and tax topics
For you to succeed in the role, you'll need to have:
* Studies in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline
* Strong communication skills in English and solid MS Office knowledge
* A proactive, team-oriented mindset with eagerness to learn and grow
Position Description
About this role:
This role supports the Tax & Product Control team within the Finance & Control function by contributing to day-to-day operational activities, reporting processes, and ongoing projects. The position provides valuable exposure to banking products, financial reporting, and tax processes in an international environment.
You will collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Tax, Product Control, and other internal business teams, while gaining insight into regulatory, operational, and financial processes within SMBC Group EMEA.
Our role will enable you to:
* Support month-end reporting and planning activities
* Assist with reconciliation and monitoring of derivative portfolios
* Support reporting processes related to profit and loss from derivative transactions
* Assist in preparing annual tax returns and related documentation
* Prepare certificates of residence and support invoicing activities
* Conduct research on tax law changes and regulatory developments
* Contribute to process documentation, procedural updates, and administrative support
* Gain experience working within an international financial services environment
What will you bring to the role?
* Current studies in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a similar field
* Strong analytical and organisational skills
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
* Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
* Proactive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to learn
* Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
Desirable
* Initial experience in finance, accounting, tax, or banking through internships or student roles
* Interest in financial markets, derivatives, or tax regulation
* German language skills would be advantageous
