Job Description:
Job Title: Weight Data: Verification and Validation
Internship Duration: 6 months
Introduction
The Mass Properties team at Airbus plays a pivotal role in providing critical mass, center of gravity, and inertia data, spanning from individual component levels up to the complete aircraft level for all of our cutting-edge products. We meticulously compute and maintain essential mass properties data for our entire family of products across various crucial stages of the aircraft design lifecycle.
The input data for Mass Properties, which is populated in our advanced PDM (Product Data Management) tools, is gathered from diverse sources including our expert design teams, external suppliers, and dedicated weight engineers. Currently, the data available within these toolsets can sometimes be inconsistent and lacks the necessary robustness, which occasionally leads to data quality challenges and ultimately increases the lead time required for rigorous data validation and the processing of our final engineering deliverables. By proactively identifying erroneous or inconsistent data, we aim to significantly simplify the overall workflow and ensure that our data quality remains completely robust and reliable.
About the Role:
We are actively seeking a highly motivated and impeccably detail-oriented intern to directly support our ongoing strategic efforts in elevating the quality of weight-related data across all our flagship aircraft programs (including the renowned A320 Family, A330, and A350). In this highly impactful role, you will help us systematically identify potentially incorrect weight information by diligently flagging anomalies and implementing the right, high-fidelity data back into our core systems through the intelligent application of business rules, advanced statistical methods, and modern machine learning techniques. The selected candidate should be fully available for a comprehensive 6-month period to maximize their learning and impact in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deeply analyze a wide variety of equipment-related data (e.g., critical systems, control panels, complex connectors, and intricate wiring) across our family of programs to proactively detect any hidden anomalies or irregularities in weight information.
* Apply and continuously refine our established product knowledge rules to effectively validate data consistency and accuracy across multiple, disparate data sources.
* Innovate and come up with robust strategies to implement machine learning and AI models that will systematically identify incorrect data entries, while taking actionable measures to permanently correct the erroneous data.
* Leverage comprehensive statistical analysis alongside cutting-edge machine learning models to effectively pinpoint these incorrect entries.
* Collaboratively brainstorm on new guidelines to perform rigorous sanity checks, create robust test cases to validate the data against established "ballpark" numbers, classify complex datasets, and expertly find and reason out the root causes of outliers and anomalies.
* Focus your analysis closely on key equipment parameters such as component category, physical size, power consumption metrics, and data cable quantity to ensure comprehensive data integrity.
* Monitor the general trend in the historical data, which should typically reflect a continuous reduction in weight, using this critical insight to help identify unusual data deflections.
* Collaborate closely with our expert engineering and data teams to deeply understand the technical context and significantly improve the overall accuracy of our validation rules.
Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Data Science, Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil), Computer Science, or a closely related highly-analytical field.
* Demonstrated solid knowledge and academic foundation in data analysis, applied statistics, and machine learning principles.
* Hands-on, practical experience programming with Python for data manipulation and analysis.
* Exceptional attention to detail paired with a highly proactive, self-starter approach to complex problem-solving, alongside a genuine passion for the aviation and aerospace field.
What We Offer:
* Invaluable, hands-on experience working directly on a real-world, high-impact data quality project within a globally recognized aerospace leader.
* Dedicated mentorship, guidance, and professional development from highly experienced, industry-leading engineers.
* A deeply collaborative, welcoming, and highly innovative work environment where your fresh ideas will be genuinely valued and heard.
This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.
