Job Description:
ERM is looking for an intern willing to join our Italian Branch in Milan to work in our Capital Project Delivery (CPD) team supporting the development of social performance, stakeholder engagement, and human rights services. Although the candidate will be working directly with ERM Italy team, he/she will collaborate with other ERM teams globally. The CPD team works with multi-national corporate companies and financing investors in different sectors (e.g. mining, diversified energy, power and renewables, manufacturing, and infrastructure) to develop their capital projects. Work includes identifying, assessing, and mitigating social related risks and impacts, development and implementation of Environmental and Social Management Plans, engaging stakeholders to obtain and maintain their Social License to Operate and working with clients to understand and adequately manage human rights risks and impacts of their operations and business relations. Projects that ERM Italy impact assessment practitioners work on are located all over the world.
In particular, the person will support the CPD team in:
* Developing environmental, social and human rights impact assessment studies (with regard to the socio-economic, health and human rights component, stakeholder engagement planning, community grievance mechanisms) and associated management plans for capital development projects worldwide;
* Writing of concise and coherent, logically flowing formal reports, mostly in English, to meet the needs of our clients and regulatory local and international applicable requirements. This includes mainly researching desk-based secondary information, socioeconomic and health data analysis and processing and reporting it in writing in socio-economic and health baselines, assisting in the development of stakeholder engagement plans, community development and outreach programs, and community grievance mechanisms.
* Supporting with the development of resettlement and livelihood restoration planning documents for such capital projects.
The Ideal Candidate has:
* Degree qualified in a discipline related to sociology, anthropology, social or international development, international human development, human rights law or similar in the social field. Environmental specialists having an interest to focus on social related topics are also welcome.
* Good communication skills, ability to write professionally and speak professionally, confidence to ask questions and seek clarity whenever needed;
* Critical thinking abilities to form a judgment based on the ability to analyze and evaluate a situation or issue.
* Willingness to work in an international environment, curiosity, flexibility, and team player attitude;
* Interest in working on socio-economic topics (including but not limited to human rights, gender, labour, diversity and inclusion) and within different countries and cultures;
* Passionate about the relationship dynamics in between projects and stakeholders and how to manage risks and impacts;
* Highly organized, with an ability to prioritize and move in between different projects and teams, and meet deadlines;
* Ability to research and analyze data and report it in a synthetic and concise manner.
* Good knowledge of Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
* Professional proficiency in spoken and written English, working knowledge of French or Spanish is an asset.
The candidate is required to spend at least 3 days per week at ERM Italy office in Milan to facilitate integration into the team and ERM work.
Internship fee: 700euros + 19 ticket restaurant/month (value 8.50euros each)
