Duties and Responsibilities
The Intern reports to the Head of the Resident Coordinator's Office (Head of RCO). The Intern will support humanitarian coordination and information management, including sitreps, 5W tracking, contingency plan follow-up, and disaster impact/loss and damage data. The Resident Coordinator's Office acts as the secretariat to the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team (UNCT), providing organizational, advisory and management support, facilitating joint strategic planning, and strengthening collaboration across the UN system. In crisis and emergency contexts, the Resident Coordinator, in cooperation with the Government and supported by the Resident Coordinator's Office, coordinates the humanitarian assistance of the international community. In Lao PDR, the UN RCO supports humanitarian coordination and information management functions, including coordination meetings, contingency planning, consolidation of situation information, and tracking of humanitarian assistance and disaster impacts to inform decision-making. This internship is located in the UN RCO Lao PDR. The Intern reports to the designated supervisor. The intern will support the team in humanitarian coordination and information management. Tasks will include: * Supporting inter-agency and cluster/sector coordination meetings (planning, agendas, minutes, action tracking). * Drafting and consolidating situation updates/situation reports and short briefs. * Tracking humanitarian assistance and maintaining the 5W matrix and related response trackers. * Tracking implementation of the Inter-Agency Contingency Plan. * Supporting compilation and organization of disaster impact information shared through official coordination channels. * Maintaining organized files and version control for trackers and reports. The internship is unpaid and full-time. The minimum duration is two months, and it may be extended up to a maximum of six months. Interns work five days per week, Monday to Friday 9.00AM to 5.00PM
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education required is HS Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
