Why is this role important at Infobip?

Being a part of Infobip Engineering means working on in-house developed products and delivering solutions on a global level - processing billions of messages for hundreds of thousands of customers across the globe.

As a Data Engineering Manager, you will lead 1-2 data engineering teams (up to 10-15 people) within the Data vertical - one of five engineering verticals at Infobip. Our teams build and operate data platforms that power the entire company: databases, streaming infrastructure, search platforms, analytics engines, and data pipelines. In this role, you will be a hands-on technical leader - not just a people manager - driving a culture of innovation, AI adoption, and continuous learning.

What will you do at Infobip?
* You will lead, coordinate, and organize high-performing data engineering teams.
* You will actively participate in architecture and system design decisions - reviewing technical proposals, understanding trade-offs, and ensuring solutions are reliable, performant, and cost-efficient. You are expected to understand how your teams operate on a deeper technical level, to explore and navigate the systems they own, and to collaborate with engineers on building things.
* You will be accountable for your teams' delivery by ensuring a productive work environment, removing impediments, and fostering a pragmatic, results-oriented engineering culture.
* You will understand how your teams' data platforms serve Infobip's client-facing products and use that understanding to prioritize effectively, coordinating across the Data vertical and with product teams to ensure alignment with company-level priorities.
* You will track performance and motivation of your team members, identify competency gaps, and support people's growth - across diverse profiles including database administrators, software developers, DevOps, and data engineers.
* You will drive recruitment, retention, and scaling plans in coordination with People Operations.
* You will champion AI adoption and innovative approaches within your teams, ensuring our data platforms enable engineering autonomy across the organization.
* You will work closely with other engineering managers, principal engineers, and a technical product owner within the Data leadership team - sharing context and aligning priorities.

Qualifications
* You have a successful track record of leading engineering teams, ideally with exposure to growing your scope over time.
* You have a strong hands-on technical background (preferably in data technologies) - databases, data pipelines, streaming platforms, or analytics infrastructure. You're comfortable reviewing architecture proposals, understanding system trade-offs (consistency vs. availability, throughput vs. latency), and contributing to design discussions. Familiarity with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Kafka, Elasticsearch, or ClickHouse is a strong advantage.
* You have a growth mindset and pragmatic approach - you value learning, adapting, and moving fast over having all the answers.
* You can recognize and align business and technical needs - understanding how your teams' work connects to Infobip's products and customer value.
* You are experienced in developing team members' career paths - including supporting growth across different profiles (DBA, developer, DevOps).
* You communicate transparently and at the right level of abstraction, whether that's your engineers, product stakeholders, or VP-level leadership.
* You have a strong understanding of agile methodologies and experience applying them pragmatically.
* You can establish productive cooperation with cross-functional teams - Data works with every product vertical in the company.
* You have experience in hiring - sourcing, interviewing, and building teams.
* You embrace AI as a tools in your day-to-day work and are eager to champion its adoption within your teams.
* You are fluent in English.

Nice to have qualifications
* Additional knowledge of agile practices, e.g., LeSS framework.
* Experience working in an international environment.
* Experience working with data at scale - high-throughput streaming, large database clusters, or real-time analytics.
* Background from any of these profiles: DBA, data engineer, DevOps/SRE, or software developer working on data-intensive systems.
* Familiarity with platform engineering concepts - building self-service tools and platforms for other engineering teams.

What your first 6 months will look like
* Month 1-2: Meet the Data leadership team, get to know the 7 data teams and the platforms they run, shadow architecture discussions and 1-on-1s, and build context on how Data serves Infobip's product teams.
* Month 3-4: Take ownership of your first team(s), start running 1-on-1s, lead sprint ceremonies, and begin contributing to technical and delivery decisions.
* Month 5-6: Fully own your teams' delivery, people development, and technical direction. Contribute to cross-team initiatives and strategic planning as an active member of the Data leadership team.
