Job Description:

Role

The aerodynamic engineer is responsible to carry out aerodynamic assessment to develop or improve the design of Nuclear Products, within the Aerodynamics Team

Main Duties

Technical work to develop and generate Aerodynamic designs

* For new steam turbine blading
* For continuous performance improvement of existing turbine blading
* For other products (diffuser, valves, steam ejectors, …)
* introducing new design processes

Provide professional technical engineering services for:

* Steam Turbines products (including Nuclear, and Service/Retrofit applications) and technology development (R&D)
* The execution of projects or work packages for Steam Turbines or other Arabelle Solution businesses/activities
* Projects or work packages for external customers

Understand and use the internal procedures and processes (Engineering Process, Quality, etc.):

* Provide feedback and undertake actions for process improvements.
* Maintain Design- and Work Instructions
* Support the organisation to develop and maintain a know-how and know-why culture and support the development of your colleagues.

Balance priorities and tasks according to the business priorities as set by the management.

Monitor opportunities and risks.

As required by the Team Manager, provide support to:

* Collaborations with universities or research institutes
* Definition of the technical content and planning design tasks requested by the R&D project managers

Generate new ideas.

Promote the interests and image of the company at all times

Behave according to Arabelle Solutions Code of Ethics and Values.

Responsibilities

To satisfy performance and mechanical integrity criteria whilst generating aerodynamic integral airfoil designs within the in-house tools suite you:

* Design blade profile sections and define its radial stacking
* Improve profile performance based on a blade to blade streamline method
* Assess mechanical integrity (mean stresses, peak stresses and frequencies) based on integrated lean methods

You stay in continuous exchange and interface to the Mechanical-, the Design- and the thermodynamic-department

Apply 3D-CFD methods (ANSYS-CFX, Cadence-Numeca) to assess the multistage turbine performance characteristic and provide input for cycle performance prediction

For the diffusor and exhaust at the exit of the low pressure turbine you:

* Generate aerodynamic diffuser designs
* Generate CFD meshes (ICEM, AUTOGRID, ANSYS-Mesh) for complex blade (shrouds, mid span connectors) and full exhaust geometries
* Run 3D RANS CFD to predict the exhaust recovery characteristic

You are responsible for the technical quality of your work

Continuously develop your own technical expertise.

You may be asked to act as a reviewer (e.g. at a design, risk or project review) in your area of expertise.

Advanced University degree (Engineering Diploma, Masters or PhD)

Ideally 2 to 3 years relevant experience in an engineering office (energy, oil, aeronautics, special machines)

5 years relevant experience minimum

French & English mandatory

German desirable

Good understanding in:

Aerodynamics

Computational fluid dynamics (ANSYS-CFX, FLUENT, Cadence-Numeca)
